Default Wraith sterring servo

Hey all,
My steering servo started smoking today. I just installed a Traxxas XL-5 ESC (couldnt get the brake to work either) and ran it for less than 5min and the steering servo started smoking Im sure that the servo is now trash, but my question is, why did it start smoking ?

Ive heard that the stock wraith servo would be the next to go, are they really that bad ?

Whats a good waterproof servo ?

Thanks for any help or thoughts/suggestions
