| Venting Tires
I'm running the Axial 2.2 Rockster Beadlocks with the Super Swamper G8 tires and stock foams. At first I thought the tires were getting flat spots from sitting, and they were somewhat. But the real problem is that the tires are too air tight and would shrink in freezing temperatures (going from a heated space to outside) causing several flat spots and horrible handling/traction. Originally, I was going to vent the wheels, but asked around and it seemed to make more sense to vent the tires, which I did. Using my solder iron with small round tip (5/32"), I burned two opposing holes between the wide lugs (flat section) of each tire. Had to let the iron rest in each hole for about 6 or 7 seconds so it wouldn't seal itself closed when removing the iron. I made sure a puff of smoke came out of the hole assuring a clear path. What a difference, no more flat spots and you can squeeze the water out if they get loaded. Sorry if this has been covered, I'm just relieved and very happy with the results. |

Leather punches work good too but the tire has to be off the wheel

I like the idea of Cauterizing the hole sealing the edges. Probably not that big of a deal?

I drill holes in the wheels. I'm not a fan of punching into the tires, it gives the sharp rocks around where I live something to grab a hold of and possibly tear.

Me too. Do you tear them down each time they get wet? I have not been able to get the water out without air drying the tires and foam opened up (1 beadlock ring off.) I have been hesitant to punch holes in my tires for the same reason but now after having to tear them down to get the water out I am thinkin of punching 1 set of tires & making those my wet work tires. | |

I would say it's worth the risk of tearing a tire, which I bet is very unlikely. The tires keep their shape and dry out fast. If your tires don't perform, what's the point? Also, If can afford this hobby, you can afford a tire now and then.
