There is an article in the Axial Crawler Blog contest that covers moving the battery up front and hinging the hood. There is lots of pictures.

Check out all of the articles and vote for your favorite plus there is a give away for the voters.

Cable clamps work perfect! Mine are clamped around the dash cage not just hooked. I don't have any photos but it is easy to do. What about the search feature Eddy!!

Yes I figured that is why you would do that. To totally remove the hood. Nice idea actually!! I just might have to try it.

i also prefer the 4 pins method. the pics of hinged hood i see dont look all that secure and the hoods seem to kinda float around wherever. i think if i hhinged the hood id pin the front

I use cable clamps on the dash bar and Traxxas battery hold down pins from the stampede. I run my rig all out launching it in the air, tumbles and barrel rolls. Never had a problem with the cable clamps or the pins.

Anyone tried velcro to hold down the front of the hood rather then posts and clips?

I have seen guys use velcro or even magnets. I think it would be great. They make some pretty hefty velcro nowadays.

I use a bit of velcro behind the grille and it works awesome on my rig.

Doing the entire battery mod shown in the provided link from Axials site.
Easy enogh so far. I was going to make a battery try but decided to stimulate the economy and buy one.
Shipping time will give me a few days to move all the electronics and do a few more odds and ends that need to be done.

I used regular small black zip ties as well. At first I was going to do the cable tie-down approach, as shown in this thread, but it felt too fragile and restrictive. The zip ties hold everything in place, yet still have some play when you open the hood up. I like that solution much better.

I use the cable clamps. They are attached to the hood with velcro and also use the traxxas battery posts and clips to keep the hood from opening when its upside down. My hood hinges at the grill too, not at the windshield.
