Default Jumping to LiPo

With my wraith getting closer and closer to not breaking every 10 minutes I think it is time to make the switch to LiPo. So let's try and make this as pain free as possible. Currently running the stock esc with a 27T axial motor so I believe 2s is the way to go. So what charger and batteries does everyone recommend? Preferably looking for longest run time possible with a 2s. Any other helpful hints or tips a beginner to RC and complete noob to LiPo should know? All help is greatly appreciated.

Hi

I have a stock wraith and these are the 2S LIPOS that I am using

Dynamite RC: Speedpk Silver 7.4V 5000mAh 2S 20C Lipo Case:Tra: Dynamite (DYN5202T)
I get close to 50 minutes of runtime with this LIPO. I have also heard of people having good success in their wraiths with the GensAce LIPOS. Any LIPO with atleast a 4000 MAH capacity is going to give you 30 minutes plus of runtime
GENS ACE 4000mah 2S1P 7.4V 30C Hard Case Lipo Battery ROAR Approved (Direct Version)

As far as chargers, personally I would reccommend this charger from Hitec:
X4 AC Plus Multi-Charger - Hitec RCD
You can charge 4 batteries at the same time and it also includes a power supply. If you are willing to spend the money this is a very good charger and you likey will not out grow it

Thanks Scott

Check out gens ace batteries. They are very reasonable and good quality. I have 4 of them and never had a problem. As for the charger I would check out the thunder ac6. It's easy to use and reasonably priced also.

I read the recommended thread and still have questions. The Thunder AC6 looks like the charger I will be purchasing but when looking at Gen Ace site I get confused. Obviously I will be running 2S since I am still running the AE-2 so which C rating and MAH does everyone recommend? I currently run a onyx 5000 nimh battery up front. What is compared in size to one of these batteries?

I mostly run 2200 may lipos 15 minutes run time roughly. I come from the Heli world where a lipo last for 4-6 minutes

2s 5000 may 30c and higher would be awesome. I've got one 2s 5000 turnigy and it does okay even though its 25c. My 40c batts are noticeably more peppy

I'm looking to extend my run times from my 5000 nimh batteries which get me about 20 minutes run times. The guys at my LHS are saying they get an hour plus of run times out of a single battery. Which LiPo batteries give longer run times? Also is there anything that needs to be done to put a low battery cut off on the AE2 and to be able to hook the 2s to it and not fry it?

i never run nimh but get some long run times on the 2s lipo 5000mah. should be well over 20 minutes.

need a castle link to program esc. id recomend a high lvc of 3.5-3.7

might be able to program eas through the radio but ive found that methad sucks invest in the 10 dollar castle link and download the program

esc has lots of adjustable features but is like geo metro in stock form

Low voltage cutoff.
As for run times i get about 45mins out of a 3s 2200 with a mix of crawling and some trail running.

Do you think a 2s with similar or large mah will produce similar run times?

from my understanding the mah is the gas tank the bigger the number the more gas (run time) and for the C rating i was told by a ton of people get the highest you can afford. just make sure that you read the size and measure 2x order once so you dont get one that wont fit. so get the biggest mah and C ratings that you can afford

That's what I figured I would do but do you know the difference in say 15C and 50C?

the C rating is the amount of power the esc can draw from, so if the MAH is the gas tank the C rating it the size of fuel line.
hope that makes sense

c rateing is like the size of fuel line. smaller would be less fuel and larger more fuel.

ive got a 65cthat freaking rips shits up.

i dont get 45 minutrs on a 2200 but i also dont run the same setup. these wraiths are kinda difrent and mine is exspecialy difrent since i run 1/8 scale esc and and motor combo

yes a just as K.Hess said on fuel line size

motor will only pull what it needs. no such thing as to high of a c rateing.

ae2 will be fine on 10-70c

just make sure its a 2s lipo thats all the ae2 is rated for but like evan03 said it can handle any C rating or MAH rating if you want run time get the biggest you can afford of each as long as the battery will fit in the spot you need it to and its 2s
