Default New question for you Wraith guys

so since ive got some money coming, i wanted to see what you guys said about this:

how "hard" would it be to just build a wraith out of aftermarket parts?

im thinking (if i can find it)

an aftermarket chassis (full metal)

Vanquish:
axles (and associated parts, chubs etc)
wheels
links
trans housing

steel bumpers
forward battery tray
ALU skid plate
shocks
ALU tranny case (or whole tranny)
fav electronics

i know theres more to it, but i mean why couldnt that be doable? i mean, skip the whole "buy a RTR/replace parts" and jump to go with the good stuff.

let me know, could be interesting....

The only thing that could stop you from doing it would be not having the big pile of money to buy the parts.

i shall haz. tax return is 2k. inheritance (which should come about the same time) is 25k.

so its either i get a wraith, honcho and maybe a mad torque (if they ever get back in stock) and some parts here and there, or its build out a wraith fully.

main thought is why not? i know there isnt one "best" crawler, and everything needs upgrades at some point. why not start with the good parts and fill in the gaps with stock parts?

Anything is possible If this is will be your first Wraith, just remember your taking out a 1000 buck wraith instead of a 350 buck one.

If you did get the kit/rtr wraith, you can always sell off the plastic parts as you upgrade to aluminum stuff

Well. Maybe 450. I bought the kit and have been wheeling for a few months for way less then 1000. Only mods so far are tranny gears

sounds perfectly feasible. and i think the record holder is in the 2k range at the moment. but if youre not shy about dropping the coin i say go for it. would make a prety awesome build thread.

anyone got a calculator handy and could work out the cost? not going for most expensive, but rather what works. anyone can throw money at a pile of parts and see what sticks.

and on that, anyone know where i could acquire a metal tube frame?

Well the build would be like everyone else's. Maybe invest 1500 in some welding equipment and build it yourself starting with a srairh kit. Or may bed just axles tranny and links. Heck make your own links.

Either its cool. Built or bought

i know i can build a tube frame myself, i just dont have the workspace to do it. i work a lot with brass tube for a few other things and can make just about anything out of brass/copper pipe.

If you want to build one, start with either 3/16" brake line or 1/4" brake line. I do all my work with Safety-Silv 45 and a cheap torch with MAP gas.

I don't like the big auto light torch heads. They're heavy. I just use a cheap Home Depot torch and it works great.

Once you get the hang of bending and brazing, switch from brake line to CroMoly or Stainless from your local industrial supply shop.

Or find a chassis for sale. They can be between 300 and 500 for good ones.

As far as parts go, buy a Wraith RTR and run those parts. They do work. Most will suggest upgrading the motor and servo. Depending on how you upgrade you motor, you'll need to upgrade parts. See Harley's guides for that information.

For a Fast, Fun, Durable rig from parts, expect to pay about $1500 in parts, maybe less. Here are a few numbers just to get you thinking. They're only estimates and may be off here and there

Tekin Pro4 - 130
Mamba Max Pro - 200
Upgraded transmission - 100
MIP Shafts - 55
Wheels - at least 100
Tires - 55
Gears/lockers - 100
Upgrade plastic breakable parts - 100
upgrade breakable links - 100

There is 900 w/0 even trying. Now add quality axle shafts, any aluminum axle housings, or a high torque servo, just start throwing hundreds at it.

Where are you paying $200 for a MMP? I get mine for $110. And if you have all that money just buy everything VP makes for the Wraith, a bad ass custom chassis, 7950 or 7980 MMP and a Pro4 MIP shafts and a good tx/rx combo

Yea there are several chassis builders on here. Just look around and it won't be long til you find a builder that will build you what you want. Most charge between $250-$450 for a metal chassis depending on options.

Id let my wraith go for the right price and the only thing stock left is the chassis/skid/trans case and the interior. Check out my build thread if you want
