Default First time out with Currie axles

Oh dear God how I love these axles. The fit and finish is wonderful. The one piece rear tubes are 1000% better than the silly lockouts Axial insisted on all the way back to the ax10. The delrin skid is a blessing. I'm going to cry the first time I drag these things across a jagged rock but at least the pumpkins themselves have some protection. I'm worried about the tiny screws that hold on the skids though, especially the two in the front... Gonna have to keep an eye on that. That's the only *bad* (if you can call it that) thing I can come up with for these things. Great job VP.

The guts I transferred out of plastic housings were VP front shafts and stock Axial rears. HR spools front and rear and OD front gears and HD stock ratio rear gears. The rear mesh was tight so I sanded about 0.001" off the inside pinion bearing and it made it much better.

I finally had a chance to run it for a few minutes today so figured I'd snap a few pics while they were new. The nearby mountain and all it's trails are quickly thawing so this thing is going to receive a healthy dose of driving in the very near future.

While it was all apart I put slightly shorter rod ends on the shocks and I am liking the new ride height. For how slight the difference was it really made a drastic difference all said and done.

I hope you enjoyed the pics. They are new enough we haven't all gotten to see many different pics of them *out in the world* so I hope I didn't go overboard.

VP Copied the Currie Rock Jock Axles exactly thats why. Next they should copy the Dynatrac ProRock 60's.

Right from the start I built this thing as a rock crawler and trail rig so believe me when I say they WILL get scratched and scraped and beat up. I'm not worried though other than cosmetics. The tubes are THICK. I just have to keep telling myself that the rock scars they receive will only add character and tell stories of all the mountains it's conquered.

"Altogether what did the front axle run you with every thing if you dont mind me asking."

Not sure exactly but check out RPP, one of our great vendors here, and add stuff to your cart. I do it quite often just for the fun of it or to work out a budget of stuff I might need.

Those axles are damn sexy, and will just get hotter with some wear and tear...giggity. Beat em up!
Curiosity question though...since you are set up for some straight up rock crawling, what do you think of those Mickey Thompson tires for crawling? I've got a set that I haven't put to much use as of yet. Did you cut the tread at all?

They look much better with 2.2 tires than with 1.9's mostly because the diff housing is too big for the smaller ones, if you don't mind me asking how much was the pair of housings and axles? I really like them but i'm not sure if i want to spent a lot of money for a nice pair of axles to scratch them on the rocks

They are the x2ss compound and they are incredible. I am extremely impressed with them and they aren't even broken in yet. I'm running no wheel weights and stock foams with one 1/16" vent hole in each wheel. They really nailed the height/width ratio in my opinion, darn near perfect. They will NOT be coming off this rig until I wear them out, at which point a new set will be waiting to take their place that's how much I like them.
