Default Noisy transmission

Anybody have issues with a noisy transmission? From the looks of it the top shaft looks to be flexing under a load causing this. You can wiggle the spir gear slightly by hand. I don't know if its a bearing, a bad trans housing or what.

I failed to mention that I did year it down. No gears seem to be stripped, no cracked case, the bearings looked fine. I guess the question is. Could the bearing lose tolerance and make the top shaft walk around?

Yes it could, did you slide the bearing on the shaft and see if there was any movement.

Good point. I didn't check for play in the bearings. Just basically looked to see if they were rusty and in one piece.

Should also inspect the housing closely where the bearing press in the could be out of tolerance

New Fast Freddie's bearing should be hear by the weekend. I'll inspect everything when it's apart and report my findings.

Mine was making noise a while back. In the end I found that is was just housing screws being loose

if you take a bearing out, put your finger over the hole and push while rotating the outer bearing ring, you'll feel grinding, dirt, rust, whatever wear is in there. If its smooth, try another bearing.

Another thing to check is make sure all 3 screws that hold the output shafts to the bottom gear are tight. lastly, make sure there is no missing teeth on the ring and pinion gears and the mesh isnt too tight or one of the gears is running on the case or cover

Fix!! Nice and smooth now. The bearings in middle gear in the trans sounded gritty and one bearing on the top shaft. Thanks
