Default help me pick a motor and slow it down

normally i wouldnt beat a dead horse but i have been out of the game for about a year and i know how these electronics change...

with that said, im going to change up the wraith one more time before i sell it for a modded night crawler. lol

i dont have a problem with my wraith but i my stock ish losi will out crawl it any day of the week unless it requires speed. dont take me too seriously, im not a heavy modder in this world... i want to SLOW the wraith down and run a stronger motor.

SO, the wraith has a stock cont. with a 10 amp BEC, and i run turnigy 3s 5000 batts. these batts are left over from my basher days and i have a lot of them and id rather not change if i dont have to. i have a holmes TM pro 540 (13 turn i think) that i cooked after about 7 runs. and stock gearing.
it is going from stock tires to 2.2 rc4wd baja claw's next week (tires have been waiting on rims for 8 months. lol)

i am hard on this thing as far as jamming forward to Reverse. i am looking at tacon motors but i am open to suggestions to get away from holmes.

questions=
am i using "too much battery" considering i want to slow this thing down?
what turn / kv would you go with?
i assume i need to stick with a brushed motor with the stock controller and to keep braking IIRC?

i dont care about top speed. a little slower than stock is fine with me. i just want a strong/ affordable motor. feel free to "set me straight"
and i am also open to trying a used motor if someone has something they want to let go of as i have no spares.

help me get back in the game....WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Jamming it forward and back as you describe is downright abusive and isn't good for ANY motor. Don't see the point in doing that.

My wraith is a slow crawler. I run 3s exclusively and have settled on a 27t Holmes Torquemaster pro. Geared 87/14 and the motor rarely gets warm. I can creep super slow, has explosive acceleration and torque and good top end when I need it.

An lnc/lcc will always crawl better than a wraith, not really a fair comparison...

You smoked the motor because the gearing is too high for running a 3s lipo with your TrailMaster Pro. I wouldn't go any higher than 80/16.

I am running a CrawlMaster 13T with 87/16 gearing with no heat problems at all. The 13T CrawlMaster is a 5 pole motor so it is about the same speed as a 27T TorqueMaster or 27T TrailMaster.

well, I think I have learned a lesson here. ease up on the motor abuse.

so gear down to 87/16 87/14 ish? and I can stick with a new TM 27 turn or go with a CM 13 turn?

any recommendations on gears?

It wouldn't hurt to email HH to see how much a rebuild will cost.

The CM is really smooth at the low end and is really great for creeping up the rocks. However, you do lose some of the punch in accelerating with it.

I would start in the 87/16-14 range and check the temps to see how it is doing.

Im runnin HH 20T CrawlMaster, TorqueMaster ESC, 60t/9t 38p gearing, 3s 5000mah Lipo. It crawls great! Awesome low end speed control. Twists driveshafts off pretty good too. haha Top speed is fast jogging. I played with the thing for 2 hours steady crawling/burning around and the motor and esc was barely warm. The servo was warmer. lol

thanks guys. im calling holmes today. i have 2 of his motors that needs love anyway!

one more question... what is it about a motor taking a crap that wont let the motor turn unless you roll the tires over by hand or bump the machine? is it the way the poles are lined up internally to get the field accross?
