| Tekin 13.5 Gen 2 gearing, Ideas welcome
Hey guys, Just set up my Wraith for a 13.5 gen 2 motor. Wraith weighs, 10lb 1 oz(heavy) Built to hilt axles, trans, driveshafts BGR goodies everywhere. ESC: Mamba max pro Battery: 5000mah, 3 cell Current gearing is 14/56 32 pitch gears. I took her out on a maiden voyage today and she is quick, but the crawling leaves a bit to be desired. I am kicking around two ideas of the gearing. GO to a 60/14 for a ratio of 4.29 or the 56/13 for a ratio of 4.31 Or should i go deeper as I don't need all this top speed she has? What have you guys found works for a hot motor and heavy rig. |

IDK if I can help but mine weighs 7.85 lbs. I run 48P gears...14/93 with a Fantom Racing 7.5T pro mod race motor controlled by a BHR 120A LT4 esc on 3s. Just finished it a few hours ago and did a half ass test in the living room. It turns those tires pretty slow. Thinking about swapping out the axle gears for the 43/16's.

I think that your setup is a bit too different from mine, they always run well in the house, out on the trail is where the faults really come out. That 7.5 is a super hot motor. Your gearing is off even for that motor. It comes out to 6.64:1. Gearing your truck closer to 4.5:1 or even 5:1 will fix your issues. Try running a 86/17 setup It will put you at 5.05:1

I run a 4600kv for snow bashing and do well with 56/12.

DEEPER Much DEEPER.. You need to get that ratio more towards 6 to 1... Right now I am running 15-90 on my SCX scaler (about 9 lbs), with a 13.5 Redline, on 3s. Motor runs great, decent speed, crawls GREAT. And I can crawl it HARD and keep the motor in safe temps. Get yourself a temp gun and check that motor. I bet after 5 minutes of running, you are getting that motor prettyhot... Good luck.. |

I'm running a 3400kv 4 pole with 11/60. It's perfect imo.

Im running a tekin 13.5t as well and with 12/56 gearing on 3s i find it a little too fast for slow technical crawling. Im dropping to 10/56 and ill probably leave it there

Hello, I have almost the same question. My wraith ways about 7 pounds, it has full steal Robertson Racing trans. gears , and the idler gear. Full titanium (custom) driveshafts, vanquish steering knuckles, c-hubs, lockouts, and all links are titanium. I have the tekin rs with a 13.5 turn and my gearing is set to 87/20, is that to high for what I am running. also to let you know that I just bought a new 3s 5000mah 50c battery, and ordering a new tekin gen 2 10.5 turn , now is this to powerful of a motor for this truck, the gearing, and the esc? Is the esc capable of handling this much wait? And my temps are ok now but can I connect a fan to the esc soldering tabs so it stays cool? Just let me know if this to much motor/power, and yes I am putting a new 17 t pinion on it should this work with the 87 tooth spur? If anyone could tell me if I am doing this right let me know thank you I appreciate the help.

An update on my setup: Swapped out the 7.5T 5000Kv sensored motor for a 13.5T 2850Kv sensored motor, changed out the original ring/pinions for 43/13's, and 93/14 spur/pinion. Tires are 5.5". On 2s, crawls beautiful yet top speed sucks. On 3s, top speed is great yet crawling suffers. So now I have ordered a 21.5T 1600Kv sensored motor which should be here next week and we'll see how that one does. But ultimately, how it runs is what i'll live with. This will be motor #7 that iv'e tried in this thing to attempt to get the best of both worlds of crawling ability and decent speed.

10/56 here. My rig is smooth when crawling and still has nice speed. It's not super fast but fast enough for me. |

| Re: Tekin 13.5 Gen 2 gearing, Ideas welcome I don't. I will take some video next time I get a chance. I have been meaning to for a while now. It's not comp crawler smooth but it it crawls plenty slow for scale/g6 style fun.

13.5 Gen1 should be arriving in the mail today. HOping to have it installed on an RC4WD 2 speed tonight powered by MMP. I know i'll swap pinions around, but should i start around 5:1 or go deeper and closer to 6:1 for the spur/pinion combo? It's OD up front and stock gearing in rear axle Thanks in advance!!! |
