Default over heating?

so I was playin with my wraith today and my motor was so hot I couldn't touch it. I don't understand how it is over heating. My current set up is:

HH brxl esc
HH 35t expert motor
2s lipo 5000mah
spur is 80t
pinion is 17t

I think my gearing is fine but I could be wrong.
my only guess is that the motor needs a rebuild. I've been using the motor for 6 months now. That is all I can really think of. Also my gear mesh is fine and I have not added any wheel weights. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

shayn

There going to ask, what kind of wheeling are you doing? Crawling, trails, mud, etc.

Seeing as it only goes about 4mph max speed it's mostly crawling but I do trailing as well. I'm thinking because it only goes 4mph when I am trailing or trying to hill climb a little the motor is at max rpm for so long because it's so slow...

I just ordered an 87/15 and I will be running the stock motor for now. I am curious to see how slow it is going to be.

that is going to be pretty slow, before i bought the HH 35T expert i was running the stock 20 on 80/17 and it was probably about 5-6mph. your gear ratio will be higher though so will be slower. It's awesome for crawling but i'm a little tired of the slow speed now...been running this set up for 6 months or so now...maybe longer

Yea, I figured it would be real low.

I over heated my motor doing some crawling the other day , so I figured I would get some crawling gears and play around. I can also see how the 80/15 combo does, 80/20 is just to high for what I like.

I doubt anything was wrong with the motor in that short of a time till you got it hot. Your geard for around 4.7:1 and you need to be closer to 5:1-5.5:1 to stay cool.

I run those motors in 3 of my scalers and they usually last 2-3 summers before needing a rebuild and I subject them to a little water every now and then.

The thing is it just started over heating and i've had this set up for awhile without any problems. Today I took apart the motor and cleaned it up with some electric motor cleaner. It was quite dirty in there so next time I go out I'll be checking temps again. I couldn't imagine going lower in gearing. Like i said it's max speed is about 4mph. I would die if i had to go slower haha! Hopefully the cleaning will help...time will tell. thanks friend..
