Default for those curious about max shafts

I won't run anything else. Seen to many well used MIPS in person that are sloppy and need rebuilt. These max shafts run about 5-8 bucks a shaft. Bought 15 16 for a pair .

My rig is super compact and I now have Wireing I wanted to protect so i clearances the cover to fit.

We don't really see many pics of these shafts. The yoked are drilled out to 5mm. Traxxas has flats on each side so the need drilled out round.

These shafts hold up to tons of power. 6s bashing on paddles kind of power with . That's more then 3hp on tap.

Anyways the photos.

Max shaft in n the front. I also think these are more scale looking then the metal MIPS and such

I'm running a revo shaft out back

Revo shaft is brutally huge.

These shafts don't bolt on the need to be cut to length some clearancing needs unless a extended front output is used. If not the 56 32p spur is the largest you can run.

If you buy the extended out put that makes this not worth while at least at first because its 38-40 bucks or around 60 for a pair.

These shafts are awesome if your on budget, have a custom lengthed rig

I'm actually considering a longer set of outputs so I can run bigger spurrs.

That said the 38 bucks for axt10 MIPS is pretty sweat deal for a bolt on beefy set of shafts.

I run em on my Wraith and they have been bulletproof.. They are smooth an light and they are readily available for cheep.. Check your local buy and sell for people selling old T-Maxx 2.5 parts.. they always have a box full of new and slightly used maxx shafts, I got about 15 shafts for $10 from a fella with parts for sale.

What spur did you use brand wise/part number? I did the rear and now want to do the front and want to find one that would be in stock at my lhs.

Also how long do these last before needing a refresh?

Been running for along time and there just starting to show some play. I'll run them till they get sloppy.

My universals are getting sloppy faster then the max shafts. Got about a year on the universals and a few months less on the max shafts.

I'm running a duratrax spur and have also ran traxxas spurs both 32p. I don't have part numbers for either.

Here's the parts needed to build the shafts

I've run maxx shafts in every crawler I've ever built with zero issues. I run brushless in most everything and 3s and they hold up just fine with driving style. I'm not afraid of the throttle I drive it like it's stolen.

Are you using the traxxas set screws on yours?

I've put over a year of heavy abuse on them. Hands down best value/performance option (non-scale) out there as of today.

I am on my Wraith, works great. Evan03, great write up! The Maxx shafts are the way to go, light, durable, strong, cheap, look scale proportionate.

I also run a Duratrax 32 pitch 56T spur gear.

I think Part Numbers would be good. I have used the X splined "max shaft" in my emaxx for the center driveshaft but they will fail within the pack. They will also twist and wont slip well anymore. I have since upgraded to the steel ones. I don't much care to use them as they will fail.

I use the "revo" ones described above but mine came off my old 3.3 tmaxx. They are easy to cut with a jigsaw.

I only recommend the bigger stronger "revo" one. I bought one recently but I don't recall the number. They are 6MM and they fit a little sloppy on the outputs but it doesn't seem to matter. I prefer to put pressure on the axle pin. I'll never break one with my gearing.

Before I forget, another + is that you don't have to spread the ears to get the joint out. They come already done.\\I also think that you will need longer CI outputs to run them but that is better since you can then use a 66T spur. The CI output is a must have if you run these shafts. Its a nice useful product.

Yeah the shaft needs modding. Have to clearance the yoke to get it to slid far enough on the output..

I broke one tmax shaft when a rock wedged between the knuckle and wheel when I was running 6s power. Other then that I've had zero issues.

There is a kinda special touch to buildings max shafts. Took me a little head scratching my first time. I'm like that fits in there without braking

I did this thread because as common as these shafts seem its still fairly unknown to a lot of the crawler drivers specialty if just getting into the hobby.

Those links I posted have traxxas part numbers pictured

Check out crawler innovations website. Besides the best foams out there, he has been using the maxx shafts and selling them for a while. They are a great option.

The max shafts fit on the back without any modification (just cut them a little shorter). I did notice I had to clearance the yoke a little because it slides on too far and binds against the transmission case.

For the front I run a 56t spur as well but with the regular max shafts the yoke rubs the spur. I guess I could sand the outside down a little. Did you guys have to sand the yoke for the front?

Found this in a search... I got maxx shafts and swapping to 32p gears and was wanting something a bit lower than stock..
I have 16/80 now but rather have something closer to 16/84 ...

But if 56t is as big as I can go on the spur about what does it equal to in 48p spurs so I know about what pinions to get.

Also swapping out to the Traxxas slipper at the same time..

I guess proofreading is out of style??? That was rough to read...

I run mips myself and also clears the cover like you did. Those shafts do look pretty nice though! Would consider those of the mips fail, which they probably won't

84/16 (5.25:1 ratio) is right between 56/10 (5.6:1) and 56/11 (5.09:1 ratio). You could also try 54/10 (5.4:1) if you have room to adjust the pinion.

Right now you're at 5.0:1 with 80/16 gears.

I have MiPs on my class 3 wraith and these on my IFS u4 rig. They both hold up great and the reason I chose these on the u4 rig is cause of alot of cutting and fitting.
