Default This Winch, or that Winch, or...

Okay, I've been considering getting a winch for a long time, and the scale look is something I'm not overly worried about.
But what Winch do I get!?!

I read a lot about hacking a servo and making your own, but that sounds kinda more complicated than something I want to get into.

I see the 3 Racing Winch, it looks awesome, scale as hell, but for that price is it gonna REALLY tote my 9lb rig up a sheer face? I'd assume not but you know what they say about assume... so I ask.

RC4WD's Bulldog9300XT Winch is a BEAUT! And something Id prefer to do. A little expensive but I pay for quality, which I'm hoping to hear it's got.

ALSO, How could I wire this into my rx if all the slots are taken?
It will be a dx3c tx SR301rx combo 3 channel (aux, thr, str, bnd)
AUX- Castle BEC
THR- HH Torquemaster XL BR WP
STR- Savox 277.7 oz-inch Servo
BND- LED Simple light controller (assuming that will give me power?)

I read that you can't put a winch in the bind slot, it must go in the aux. Can my BEC go in the BND position? and if so am I just effed on the lights?!

I enjoy my lights but if they gotta get off the board then so be it.

Winch suggestions? Strength, personal experiences, it all helps.
Suggestions for my lighting?
All of it helps me to
Make my wraith
that much
MORE AWESOME!!!!

First build and I want it to the 9's.

Get yourself a "Y" splitter cable.. I get em at my LHS for about $1.50 Plug it into the the bind slot and put your BEC and Lights into that unless you have your bec set to higher than 6v. This is where Im unsure. Your lights might handle more than 6 volts, but I dont know.. I run mine like this but was running 6V from the BEC. I had a Dig on my AUX channel..
If your running your lights and BEC now, then the RX must be putting whatever Volts out that your pumping in through the BEC... So the "Y" cable should would perfect for you.

In one of Harleys builds he installs a awesome looking winch but I for the life of me can't think of the winch name or build thread. The winch cost about 100 bucks if I remembered right.

Its really very simple to make a servo into a servo winch lots of you tube videos on it.

I had the rc4wd bulldog . It looks awesome but didn't have a ton of power but still could get the rig unstuck or up inclines. The wireless remote is very handy that way you just plug the bulldog controller in any open port on your receiver.

Did some digging and found it. Not sure if there's a long jevity review or if its been beat on and put through its paces from gate to gate. It should be a way stouter robust unit that should take some beating.

+1 on the y cable. Thats how im running my winch plus lights. I have been running my BEC at 7.4v on my wraith and scx 10 both with axial led's. I have killed servos but lights are going strong
I bulit a servo winch. Check out the quick sand winch(I think thats what it is called)

^^Sadly MSD is no longer, and the quicksand as far as I know is no longer being made either. I'm also going to be in the market for a winch soon, and my problem is that it has to be a bumper mount in my case, nowhere else to put it, and that limits my options. I've been looking at the KMS winches lately.

KMS winch's all in one place

Did some digging knowing I'd seen kms winches. Finally tracked them down to ZNO Rc in Idaho. These are badass have seen them in action at the scale comps. Even one winch pulling 3 rigs up rock faces all at ounce. Zno puts on some sweet comps.

New KMS Winches Available Through ZNO-RC!

Oooops kms is actually located in oregon

Making a servo winch isn't as difficult as it seems, it's really just a motor and transmission when you pull the pin on the main gear and rip out the electronics. Using an esc for a controller makes for a powerful winch...

I wouldn't trust a centered pot servo winch to get me through an entire g6 or endurance comp without creeping or giving up the magic smoke after repeated winching help. Not to mention the lack of a drag break. Line speed is also nicer up around 9v, which a stock pot can't handle.
