Default Wraith, mostly a crawler,,,,

Hello fellow Wraith owners!!
I bought a Wraith from a member on here and it has the stock gearing, 20t motor and ESC. What I plan on doing with it is mostly trail and crawling around my farm with my son. So, I am not looking for a "fast" set up. Want something slow with lots of torque. I will upgrade as things break or money allows. What is a good motor to use with my stock ESC? Was looking at the 55t axial motor, should that work for my needs? More turns = slower, more torque, right?
Thanks

Good info in the skickies above. Holmes 27T has good balance of crawl and speed. If your looking for a cheap motor axial has a 27t. 55t is to slow in my opinion.

I am reading them slowwwwwwlllllllyyyy! Did a search and was wondering if there was any "new" brushed options out. Not necessarily a "cheap" motor, more of a reliable one.

Oh, almost forgot, I want to make the throttle smooth and not have any cogging type acceleration or jerky stopping. Is this even possible?

HH Crawlmaster is a 5 arm motor for supersmooth slow speed. 13.5t is a 27t equivalent. Or 15.5 is a 35t I believe. Check out there site

Team brood has some NICE motors as well. You can start with the axial stock 27t if money is an issue and use a 16/87 ish gear ratio. I have a 27t with a 20/87 and it's perfect! Only thing I complain about....stock motor offers poor brake ability.

55t I think you will find to be a bit too much. A solid 30-40t motors is right in the sweet spot for what you want to do with it....I think.

I love my Traxxas 21 turn 550 sized E-Maxx motor.. Because it's a 550 size. The 21 turns are about equal to a 35 turn 540 sized motor. You're stock motor is a 540 size motor.
The 21t Titan is very torquey, available at nearly every hobby shop, priced around $23 and can handle taller gears for more speed or 3 cell Lipos if you have the speed controller to handle it.
It's the only motors I run in my trucks and my sons trucks. All have 21t titans except one that has the 12 turn Titan. The 12 is way faster but has a lot less torque. Plus you have to gear it way down to make it reasonable . I run 16/87 gears with a 12 turn in this rug on 2s Lipos

Ok, another thing, should I look for beefing the driveline up? Because I am thinking of adding weight to the wheels.

I ran a brushless system on the stock drivelines for quite a while with no problems, but I went to junfunc's as a precaution. I'd recommend mip's though if you do change.

Been reading the stickies. What is a good shock oil to use with the stock shocks? Want to be able to conform to rocks and roots without bottoming out, but still ride smooth. Looks like I need softer springs too.

Lol. 50-80wt oil. Probly 80 so it leaks out of the axial shocks slower and tezists bottoming

Are there any "new" decent priced shocks I should take a look at? I have heard about the SCX shocks leaking too! Seems like all the "GOOD" shocks are out of my price range!

Ok, just got my Wraith and Holmes 35t expert combo with the non waterproofed esc. I am going to try and re gear the stock setup, to see how long it will last. Don't have a bec yet for my digital savox servo. Hope Harley gets his screw sets soon. Missing some screws for the rx box and the steering links.

Pretty sure you could get the screws needed from a local fastner store

Yeah, probably do that.
On another note. I have a strc steering link set that is not installed yet, looks like I need some ball links too. Are there anything better than the stock plastic ones. Went to strc's website and they just say to use the stock ones. I would like metal ones.

Hey speaking of that digital servo and bec. Do you have to have a bec to run the digital servo or what never really messed with them

I just hooked my bec up today. Connected it right behind the battery plugs to my esc. Then pulled the red wire from my esc rx plug and plugged it in the throttle slot in the rx. Then plugged my bec into the battery slot on the rx. Simple safe setup really. Good luck!

I'm running XR10 wheels with internal weight and all 6 slugs in. Stock driveline is fine. I strictly crawl. Faster driving could cause issues.
I have a 45t Holmes Hobbies. My gearing is just shy of the lowest you can do (can't recall right now). I literally have to pick it up and carry on straightaways. Top speed is slower than a slow walk.
