Default Wanting to go brushless

Hi all. Planing on going brushless in the next month or so. So far from reading others threads I've decided to run mamba max pro esc. I would like to know whats a good kv choice in either tekin redline or tekin rok412 for good balance of speed and crawling. I dont have a lot of rocks in my area. Mostly trailing and hill climbing. All suggestions appreciated.

If you have the $$ for the tekin roc, get the 3100kv and upgrade your drive train as the parts break.

This is the motor that I just bought with the same theory in mind.

It's awesome on 3s. But it pops driveshafts, spur gears, and now a plastic drive hub like nothing. Be prepared to replace parts. Lol

Be sure to read Harley's stickies.

ROC412 3100kV, if I recall correctly... bulletproof drivetrain...

I just finished putting in a Pro 4 3300kv with RR one piece output and idler. On 2s it pulls wheelies from a stop. Great low speed control too. So far no broken parts after two packs, but we'll see soon enough especially one I grab a 3s. While new animal from the RTR I bought it as.

Edit: gearing is 56/14 both in 32 pitch. At least I think that's what I ended up with. I know the pinion is right.

Thanks for the info guys. I've already upgraded my tranny gears to hot racing hardened steel. Plan on mip drivshaft next then axial hardened steel axle gears. So I cant go wrong with tekin rok412in 3100kv. Sounds good to me.

MMP and ROC 2300kv is quick enough for me on 2s, but I don't need a basher since have Vattera Halex.

The 3100 KV on 3s is far from a basher. It is just a good balance of speed and control to be competitive in events like a G6.

I have a similar situation, mostly mountain bike trails, and some good big steep hill climbs, I started with a holmes hobbies brxl and trail master brushed motor. The wraith being a bit heavy would over heat from my tapped out hill climbs, so I tried a mmp/3300kv pro 4. It was insane! !!! I just didn't like the crazy rpm's, wasn't very scale. So I got an 1850kv 550 pro4 hd, AWESOME! !! I run a 32p 56t spur and 18t pinion, I figured since it had all that torque it could push taller gears like the 1/8 scale buggies do. I was right, I temp my rig often during runs, it usually runs around mid 130's when I "beat" on it. The mmp's fan will kick on here and there but it doesn't get that hot either. I recently got a tekin rx8 gen2 to try as I read that the mmp only has 65amps per step and the rx8 has 220 amps per step so I will get full power from the motor. I'd say the pro 4 550 hd 2500kv would be great. I may get that myself. Hope my input helps.

I would say 2700 or 3100 would be excellent choice if want to go really slow and smooth too! It all depends on gearing. I believe stock gearing 4:1 and motor works out about 3100. If want to go crazy fast higher KV is your choice, all about what you want. Bought mine used with a 4400 KV not sensored, and way too fast even on a lowered chassis.

That was me that said the MMP is 65. It is 65 conntinuios but will burst much higher his high who knows. You may be already getting full power from that motor. In my mind a 18 tooth pinion is to much no matter what I'd be curious about the ESC temps.

Rx8 is a baddass ESC I forget the actual specs but I thought it was 120 continues but bursted way high. Maybe it is 220 and burst to 700 something.

Rx8 is definitely the better choice when paired with motors in the 60-150amp range

I've been thinking about going brushless too, I have a HH Torquemaster 27T but I want a little more speed. It doesn't need to be fast, but strong enough to propel the Wraith over a jump from a short distance, I don't really have that now.

I really appreciate all the input. Really helpfull. I picked this up so far. will pick a motor when I save up some more funds. So I have time to make a decision based on you guys input.

So I've order the tekin rok412 3100kv. Was wonder if it came with wire to run to esc or do I have to pick up some. And if so what guage is recommended?

Got my rok412 3100kv this morning. Installed it and love the mmp and rok. Very impressed with torque and drag brake. Im running 2s 40 c lipo and it pulls wheelies :-)!!!! In love with my wraith!

I run a RX8 with ROC412 3100kv on 2s, 19/80 gearing. Couldnt be happier, plenty of speed where I run, and tons of snap if needed to jump up something. Crawling is flawless.

Yeah I'm running the PRO 4 3300 on a 25c 2s and same story. Wheelies when I want, plenty of power on tap to hop over a root or rock with a blip of the throttle, and great low speed control when needed. My wraith is much closer to what I originally wanted it to be when I first bought it.

Im running 32p,58t spur,12p pinion. That puts it at 4.83 ratio.
