Default 11" WB/SCX axle'd Mini-Wraith

he'yo fellow RCC members. i am fairly fresh to the r/c crawling-Scale scene. i picked up my first wriath in Feb. and have been addicted ever since. The wraith has been good to me for almost a year now. but after several different bodies and wheel/tire setups i decided it was time for a big change.

i recently traded another r/c i had for a stock-o SCX-10 and after spending some trail time with it I decided that for me personally, the SCX was a far more interesting truck and tho harder to drive in comparison to the super wide big tires wraith...it was a challenge i had been searching for all year.

but i wasnt quite ready to say goodbye to "Ol'Besty". and thats where this story really begins.

i just wanted to share with you guys how i modified my wraith cage. with running such a short wheelbase i had to do some minor modifications to make it look right

i started by taking a heat gun to the front of the hood and bending it down to just where it touched to front mounts of the shock tower and added a few zip-ties to help keep its shape. i also removed the front bumper and shaved down the mounting points for it.

(sry blurry picture)

once that was done i had to do some work to the back of the cage.
i removed the bottom section completely and left only what you see below

you can also see in the picture that i have mounted the exo light bar where the front of the cage for the roof originally mounted. it took a bit of shaving both the light bar and the cage to get it to fit correctly. you can mount it without trimming for anyone who is interested, but it pushed to top of the cage out slightly and my OCD wasn't letting it slide.

I havent seen anyone try this one before so i thought it would look really cool if it worked. if not... i was out a roof and most of a cage i guess

success!! well sort-a. now the roof had that funky arrow point in it. had to fix that with some spare wraith cage pieces i had laying around.

after everything was trimmed, shaved, tapped, pinned, and shoved back into place, i cleaned it all up and painted the pieces black that needed to be and moved onto link mock up.

I love the oval rear. Reminds me of a sprint car.

Trying to get you guys caught up on the progress i have made on this. i was about a week late on getting this post up so lets get it!

LINKS:
i have the front links mocked up. i used the good old All-thread method with revo long and regular rod ends. I should be getting my aluminum links on monday to replace the all thread ones but for now they are in ther.

front: uppers-75mm / lower- 90mm
rear: upper-95mm/ lower- 110mm

i went with this setup so that the front axle would sit inside the wheel well where i wanted it to for 1: looks and 2: tire clearance issues with rubbing frame.
it also helps bring the weight more to the front of the rig.

you can really see from the picture below how short the front links really are.

almost forgot to mention. i purchased my scx axles used and they didnt come with either 3 or 4 link mounts so i made my own out of some spare rod ends and made a brace to go between them. the rod ends are off of one of the axial trees. they are the ones used for the scx drag link the eye is off-center and made a perfect makeshift mounting point for my upper links.

axle lines up perfectly inside the shortie wheel weels. ignore the ugly slash wheels they are just a bit smaller then 1.9 pitulls so they worked for mock up.

for the rear i had to make a mounting point for the rear shocks. i used some all thread and some chopped up cage pieces to make it work.

while im waiting for the aluminum links to get here ive started working out the body and interior.

more to come soon

got the body panels mocked up. these are made out of very thin lexan....ok ok its soda bottles i had some empty ones laying around and was anxious to continue progress so i cut the top and bottoms off of them and used the heat gun on low to flatten them out a bit. i will be remaking these out of thin sheet metal in the next week when i get some free time but these look pretty nice for not spending any money on them. im reusing my old hood for now also as it got me thru my first G6 in STL....so its certified already lol

rocking my local club. STL "ShowMeScalers"

the 2.2's are a bit tall for this rig. but they work for now. eventually some 1.9 trail Ready Beadlocks from Mayhem Engineering will be ordered but i havent even got to the drive train yet so wheels are on hold.

Roller Poses!

i think the JunFac 13mm spacers will add just enough clearance that if i decide to stay with 2.2s they will fit nicely without any rub.

i put my spare set of 2.2 flat irons on the integy beadlocks just to see how they fit. they are only 4.5" mounted and they really made a difference in the look.

and thats where we are today. im waiting on all my scale bits to get here along with my wild willy driver so i can start the interior work and get the lights started.

thanks for checking out my build. will have updates in a few days.

Ive got a 17" wb wraith and this is really neat. It looks like a rzr. I bet with no dragbreak, smaller wb, and smaller tires it would be awesome as a all around carpet mobile. I might do something like this.

I love the modded cage! I might have to keep that rounded rear in mind when I start messing around with the tubing I have laying around.
