Default help me decide what to power my wraith with

Howdy, I know this has been cover a gazillion times but I need a little help. I want to re power my wraith (stock motor, esc) I wanted to go sensored brushless but I have such little knowledge on brushless motors I dont know what to look for, I dont mind staying brushed but again, Im not sure which way to go. I would like to stay 2s lipo and its current top end with stock gearing is fine, just looking for a little more torque and efficiency.

Thank you, Mr. Indecisive

Hands down the best deal on a sensored motor for the wraith is the HobbyWing 3400kv 3656SD. It fits without modification. It is a 1500w (pro4 is 1000w) 4 pole. The fact that it is less than $90 shipped seals the deal.

Agree with Calderwood. I also would recommend the Tekin Redline 13.5t. Picked up used for $30 on the forums. 4 pole is better for torque but if budget is in your mind you can always look at 2 pole motors. Mine did fine with the 13.5 but I upgraded to the Tekin ROC 412 3100kv motor. AMAZING.

You'll need a new ESC also to run sensored brushless. I think most people run the Castle MMP. Personally, have a little hatred towards Castle so I run the XeRun ESC. Runs the Tekin and Hobbywing motors like a champ.

Good luck picking!

Take a look at the new holmes hobbies brushless motor. It's 3100kv and sensored. It is 2 pole but John designed it with crawling/trailing in mind so it really performs. The 2 pole motors give you a little better slow speed start than most 4 poles.

For esc. I run castle mmps. They are so versatile and will work great.

Good luck.

Calderwood is spot on, get the Hobbywing 4-pole and a MMP. I just installed one in my wraith, and I thinks it is the single best upgrade I have ever purchased for any RC car I've owned. It is smooth as glass and has retard strength for torque.

That's my favorite kind of torque!!!
Great suggestions guys, Ill check out both systems, not familiar with hobby wing stuff but I do have a HH combo in a crawler, it runs really well. I need to get educated on brushless motors, I get confused with kv's versus turns.

ugh....Too many choices!

my heart tells me to stay brushed (I run in the snow sometimes) and it tells me to catch up with the times and run brushless!

I like the idea of HH products, support the smaller guy kinda thing

I waterproofed my 3656SD wth mg chemicals 419b conformal coating and regularly submerge it completely under water.

It depends on the system. Realize though that $10 of the conformal coating that I mentioned above is enough to 100% fully waterproof every receiver, BEC, servo, speed control, and motor that you own.

When you are dealing with brushless motors turns aren't a very good way to pick a motor. The combination of watts and Kv are the best way to compare brushless motors.

I won't buy a motor that does not list kV.

Um currently crawling with a 950kv motor on 3s and love it. Enough wheel speed to be at the lower end of rock bouncing with 800 watts of power

Just ordered this combo for my new Wraith kit I just finished, will be taking pics of it tomorrow! HobbyWing JS6 Sensored Brushless Combo w/ Justock 45A ESC + XERUN-21.5T 1600kv Sensored Motor is the combo I ordered for around 113. dollars.

I would go with a Tekin 17.5t and a mamba max pro. It is a great, reliable combo and has plenty of torque and wheel speed. Don't get the RPM model 17.5 unless you want a LOT more wheel speed. With my gen 1 17.5 I get plenty of speed and torque. I run a Tekin RX8 with it, but a mamba max pro would work just fine as long as you get the castle link to set a drag brake for it.

what 950kv are you using? I havent seen any (reasonable) motors below 1500kv.

The statement about KV vs watts is a good one. it is a bit deceiving though. a higher kv motor will have higher wattage but less torque.

I personally prefer extreme low KV and higher voltages!
