Default Wraith with SCX10 transmission?

The time has come to upgrade the transmission in my wraith. I am looking at 2 options. Option 1 just buy the Super Shafty bombproof trans or option 2 is build an SCX transmission using the VP case and dig unit with Super Shafty shafts and Robinson gears. However I have a couple questions regarding compatibility. First of all, do the SCX and wraith transmissions have the same footprint where they bolt to the skid? Second of all has anybody done this and what kind of issues will I run in to in doing so?

Thanks in advance guys.

Yes the 2 trans have the same mounting footprint, the thing to watch out for is the Wraith skid is longer than the SCX10 & the trans isn't centered, it's closer to the front.
The wraith trans being designed to have dig the rear outdrive is longer, with the std SCX10 rear outdrive the driveshaft hits the skid.
I think the SS trans takes care of this.

Scx10 trans with VP dig works perfect in my two wraiths.

I have an scx trans in my 1.9 wraith and just clearanced the rear of the skid for the drive shaft with a dremel.

Hi Norotor,

I have been asking SS to provide me with a VP cased bomb proof trans as well. I was told to order the SCX10 with the VP case color of my choice, add the 6MM connectors for MIPs since that is what I have and then in the notes section add a note saying this is "for a wraith" and that they will take care of it for me. You could just do that and get what you want built and tested by them.

thought I would share since we both seem to be gunning for the same hardware.

thanks
paul

For gears I'm wanting to use the Robinson internals. Do I need to use the gears for an ax10 or for a wraith? According to what I've read from Axial all their 3 gear transmissions share the same internal gear sets but I notice on Robinson's web site the ax and wraith gears have different part numbers.

The gears individually are identical between the AX10, SCX10 & Wraith trans, it's the rear out drive for the Wraith that's longer. If buying just gears, Axial/HotRacing/Robinson & using the stock style outdrives it won't matter.
It just depends on which gearbox case you use if you want to use the one piece bottom gear, the Wraith gear has the longer rear outdrive with a bigger bearing on it & the case to support the bearing.

Guess your familiar with the Wraith gearbox

But if you haven't seen in a SCX10

I'm looking at this same setup for one of my Wraiths, and was wondering if when using the Hurtz DIG unit, you needed to install a longer rear output to clearance the wraith skid, or if the Hurtz DIG unit negates that?

Thanks!

Mark

The addition of the dig unit brings the overall trans length back the same (+/- a whisker) as the original Wraith, no change to the output shaft required (besides there isn't a longer shaft for the hurtz dig anyway)
