What do you all think Hot Racing or VP lockers? Also why would you replace the pinion shaft bearings with bushings? thanks for the help

I personally have the VP lockers on my wraith and never had any issues with them. Vanquish Products is my weapon of choice.

The HR lockers are more solid than the stock iron cross but with as much slop (maybe a bit less.) The VP lockers seem to be picky with axial universals (end engagement of axial uni's ) The bushing on the pinion is for those using big power & burning up bearings a lot. |

do the locking set screws on the VP ones work with the stock rear axials?

Yes they will, but you may run into a problem with the Axial axle shaft's tang being too short for the set screws to properly do their job. Locked UP RC and Hot Racing spools are also a great choice. You don't need bushings on the pinion unless you're running A LOT of power. |

I'm a fan of the Hot Racing lockers. They are cheap and reliable.

locked up spools here, way tighter tolerances than the hr spools resulting in much less slop |

I'm a fan of the hot racing spools. My rear lasted about a year running a combination of 3, 4 , 5 and 6 power. However a few months ago running 6" paddles in the sand she finally let go and stripped the inner out. I've become to like locked up Rc stuff so I orderd a fi spool to replace the hot racing one. I also fitted a new inner shaft I really liked that they are advertised to be a press fit on the flange. My fi spool isn't press fit and has a slight amount of slop. No biggie. In my boom the first spool fit and finish seems to be just the same as hot racing. I wouldn't run anything that requires set screws. Last edited by evan03; 06-03-2014 at 02:53 PM. |

I busted 2 HR spools in the front of my wraith. Went with the VP locker and haven't had a problem since. But I do use them in my less powerful SCX.

That's weird I run a lot more power then most and I felt the hot racing spool spent a year being pretty dang awesome

I run a Pro 4 3300kv and just recently replaced my shot stockers with Locked Up FI spools. The shafts definitely took some force to get in place, so I have full confidence that they should last a while. Only had one run on them, though, because I'm currently missing the front half of my front MIP drive shaft. Not sure where it fell out, but it's gone!

I was hoping for the tight fit. Maybe I just got some looser ones. I'll be happy if I can run the first spools for a year like the hot racing

I'm finally running the FI Spools in F/R.. HD gears and beef tubes F/R. The bronco wraith is holding up to anything I throw at it so far. The FI Spools are BA! Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk |

| Re: lockers Was there a lot of wear on your axle shafts when you installed the fi spools? I had to remove material from the shaft on both of my trucks just to get them to engage. Definitely a press fit.
