Default Wraith Spur Pinion shootout 32p vs. 48p

What is you opinion on spur pinion combos for my wraiths and my SCX!0. I have researched like mad and even posted on the forum and I'm getting conflicting info. So I'm just trying to run it by people who know. I 'm just out to trail crawl and have fun on home made obsticals and rocks logs forest, maybe at most G6 with some all out running but just to get from challenging zone to challenging zone. little to no jumping or bashing. looking for smooth slow speeds and torque but with some wheel speed when needed.
I'm on the Tekin FXR brushed motor ESC combo 35t. for all four of my rigsThree wraiths for my kids and my scx10.
I have been steered toward the super shafty Wraith trans. A bit overkill but bomber. It comes with a 56t 32p metal RR spur that i am planning on pairing with an 11t 32p. Is that a good combo? Or is that for going fast and bashing?
If don't go with super shafty I will go back to stock with crawler inovations output upgrades. I have crawler inovations traxxis drive shafts for all my rigs as a way to beef up that area but still have a fuse in the drive train it is a cheap and easy replacement.
I have a stock SCX10 trans that I will beef up with the CI output kit and Drive shafts. I have no idea what to gear it as. Looking for moderate to cool temps.

Can you give me suggestions for where to start experimenting?

1. Wrath trans.
a) 32p spur & pinion combo

b) 48p spur & pinion combo

Thanks much!

Off the top of my head i can't remember the gearing i got last week. I run with a guy who is a very solid wraith crawler here in AZ, Crawler-Dad is his tag name. He is running 60tooth 32 pitch, and a 9tooth 32 pitch. Its giving him a 6.66 ratio. He also uses a 45turn integy motor, which i just picked up and run with a tekin crawler ESC and i love it.

The 32's are a bit beefier than the stock so you have to do a bit of mod on the transmission gear cover for it to fit smoothly, using a dremel with a grinder stone cleaned it right up.

I know i'm using a 32pitch but can't remember the exact tooth combo, but i'm at a 6.9 gear ratio right now.

I am running 32P gears! I love the 56T Spur and 14T pinion right now. I use Traxxas Spur and RR pinion. No mods to my cover! Fits perfect and with my Tekin RS and Redline 13.5T Brushless set up it is great so far!! 2S power is plenty of speed for me!! I tried 3S and wow! I would call my Wraith flipper...lol.

RR's gear ratio chart was helpful for me: Robinson Racing Products - The Leader in Gears for RC Cars

Stock wraith spur and pinion would be 80/20 on 48p I believe, so your at 4:1. I picked up a Traxxas 54t spur and both a 9t and 13t RR pinion giving myself 6:1 and then close to stock with 4.15:1 respectively. For how cheap the gears themselves are, I'd say just pick up a 54t or 56t spur gear and then start messing around with pinion tooth count until you get an idea of what you like torque-wise in conjunction with the wheel speed still available at each gearing choice.

48P no way.. I hate replacing gears... All the rigs I currently own are upgraded to 32P
On the Ash Wraith, I run 14/56 on a Tekin 4.5 3s, 5000mah...
Zombie Wraith, 11/56, Tekin 4.5 3s, 5000mah...
Mad Skinz Axial JK 14/60, Tekin 7.5 Gen2, 3s 4000
Mad Skinz RC4wd Boyer Truggy Chassis, 12/56, Pro4 4600 3s 4000mah
******** Not one stripped gear Yet!!!!!********
Of course these are all high Kv, high powered, Heavy Rigs... Zombie is 10.4lbs and driven the most..
Heres a few Pics.

don't know why people think you have to have 32p. I've been running the RRP 48p 80t steel slipper/spur for atleast 6-8 months with a MMP/Pro4. I run a 17t pinion with no problems. Still have the original top shaft too, But have upgraded to HR steel tranny gears.

Steel vs plastic is also a consideration when picking pitches. 48p steel spurs will hold up way better than plastic. I run a 32p plastic spur 60t/9t gearing. The 32p will last better than 48p but it being plastic keeps it my weak point in my driveline.

I have owned 2 Wraths at this point , both are brushless (tekin 10.5 and 13.5), both have all steel drivelines, and I run stock 48 pitch spurs. (87:14 and 87:20) works great, and if I do break something in the driveline, its most likely gonna be a 4$ spur gear. As opposed to something more substantial, obviously, your driving style , and the terrain your running on is gonna dictate how well the plastic spur will hold up for you.

Thats cause they are steel 48P .. Plastic is what the forum is what the forum was asking I believe.
You also cant get a slipper eliminator (Old style AX10 Steel cup) running the Robinson system. Its also way over-priced than a $6 Delrin Spur.
If you want it locked, just zip some screws in it... Just saved yourself, $24

An 80t spur doesn't let you gear down much if your running a 5mm pinion shaft.

I have been running my wraith with 48 pitch 87t plastic spur, standard tightened slipper and 17 t pinion. I have a ROK 412 3100 kva and MMP on 3S. I do a mix of slow crawl, trail run, and hill climb on rocks for a fair while now with no issues. I give it heaps without being stupid, the slipper works regularly , but that's what it's there for. Use a little common sense, no problems yet. Love it.
