Default Darkstar's U4RC Tuber Build

Here is my build thread for my new U4RC tube chassis build. Most of my Wraith parts will move over to this chassis. Some things will get replaced, some things will get added.

Plan is to have it up and running by the start of the next U4RC series. I'll start to accumulate the extra parts I need for this build over the course of this series.

List of what is going on it from my Wraith.

Currie Front axle, with Orange VP "C's" and Knuckles, VP 5MM VVDs, Axial HD gears, and a Locked Up FI Spool, Savox 1230SG servo.
Currie Rear axle, with a Locked Up FI Spool
Blue Monkey Trailing arms with VP Ti rear uppers
VP Ti front uppers and lowers
Proline Power stroke Slash rear shocks, on all 4 corners
Wraith skid, modified to move trailing arms more inline with the Yeti setup
DLUX carbon fiber rear sway bar
Gearing 14/56
VP Method 105s in Orange, loaded with CI 5.5 DD Foams, in medium, wrapped in VooDoo U4RC Gold tires
Electronics coming over
Tekin RX8 Gen 2 with a Tekin Pro4 3300kv motor, powered by a MaxAmps 3S 2200mah battery
Futaba RX

What I plan on buying along the way
Axial EXO rear light bezel and radiator set
RR HP slipper unit 56T gen 3 slash
New panels, either Aluminum or 24ga sheet metal
New vinyl wrap, not sure from who yet

Now on to the chassis.
Chassis is designed and built by Scott Anthony & Jayson Medovitch of MadSkinz RC, called the XFactor Chassis.
Details about the chassis. It was built for my needs, with some of my input, but it's ultimate purpose is for U4RC racing.

Chassis is fully tig welded, ground down to smooth the joints, then brazed for the ultimate look, finished off by a nice powder coat in black.

First off let me say I was blown away by the chassis when it got here. IMHO, the build quality is in line with a Matzilla or UCFab chassis (I've seen both of these builders chassis in person). The powder coat is very nice and clean, all the joints on the chassis are nice and round, finished with great quality, it almost looks too pretty to put it together and beat on it!

As you see the chassis now, this is where it sits, and will seat until it's build time. I'll continue to update this thread with my progress, for now it will be of me making the panels for the chassis.

On to the pics! They aren't in the best quality, but I'll pull out the nice photography equipment and get some great shots.

That chassis looks awesome. Can't wait to see how this build turns out.

Not much of an update today. I did get the panels draw up on some 18ga sheet metal. I'll start cutting and fitting this weekend.

Latest update.

Got the CI foams and Voodoo U4 tire, in gold compound.

These will be mounted on a fresh set of VP Method 105s.

Also got the hood and RX panels cut, up next will be bending the panels to fit nice. I'll likely braze the hood when it's bent, to give it a nice clean look.

Another update today.
RX tray is bent and in place, just took minor trimming to get it just right.

Hood bent and in place, had to do some trimming as well and some tricky bending to get it to fit right.

Both in place.

Above view of the hood. Not sure I like how it looks yet, I might get a feel for it when it's painted and/or wrapped.

This weekends update. I was able to get 1 side panel cut and test fit. And kinda mounted so I can get some bends put on.

Here you can see its bend to fit the side. I'm not happy with the rear part of the panel, I might cut it off, just not sure yet.

It's currently mounted up, bending and fitting sheet metal is not my strong point. I'm currently using 18ga sheet metal. Maybe it's too thick for what I want to do.

Im sure you could go get some scrap alum from Shawn at Jones fab. It would be way easier to work with.

You've never met Shawn? I thought you knew him, he built the FJ40. He has a shop here in Upland, he does 1:1 sheet metal so he has lots of leftovers.

Like the work so far. I bet it would be easier to bend some aluminum panels. Also lighter. Enjoying the progress.

I don't think I've meet Shawn. Sounds like aluminum is the way to go. I don't think I'm going to race this tuber until next season though, so I've got time.
