Need Recommendations

Just ordered an MMP and ROC412 3100kv for my RTR Wraith. I'm looking at what gearing I need to upgrade to. I've been reading up on gearing and it seems a lot of people are happy with a 32P 56/10 setup. This will mainly be a crawler with some trail riding. My question is, is that a good "all around" gearing for that motor, and what else do I need to replace to prevent as much exploding as possible? Or, should I go lower? Really want it to crawl smoothly, but have wheel speed on tap when I need it.

Current drivetrain/suspension upgrades are as follows:

VP OCP housings
VP knuckles/chubs/lockouts
VP VVD
VP lower link/shock mounts
Blue Monkey titanium steering/links all around

Haven't done driveshafts yet, but I know I'll need to as I move up in torque/power. Been trying to educate myself on them before I order some to fit the Wraith. I understand an AX10 tranny is a better setup which will require different length driveshafts? I'd rather just do it all once. AX10 housing, re-gear (56/10?) and AX10 MIPs? If I'm watering it down too much, my apologies. School me! Thanks!

JMO, I'd say 56/10 on 3s will be excellent all around. You can do an AX10/SCX10 style case and just get one of HH extended rear outputs if you want. I have two rigs with this setup. I'm also running either Axial WBHD driveshafts or Traxxas Maxx shafts on all my rigs. Cheap, quiet, lightweight, and I've never twisted or broke a single one on 3s brushless. One of those ran a Holmes 540XL that rode wheelies on command and no driveshafts failures. Just a thought. Here's a pic of the Holmes one piece output on the right.

I agree with Screamer all the way around. 56/10 on 3s should have great low-end and plenty of wheel speed, and more is just a pinion away. The only thing I don't see in your list of upgrades is HD diff gears.

Thanks! Any reason to change diff gearing? Can't see any reason if it's all coming from the trans, but you guys are the experts. Just Axial HD diff gears do the job or is there some other brand I should be looking at?

Axial HDs are all anyone uses, I'm not sure there are even any others available. Underdrive gears (43/13) front and rear will reduce torque twist and have the best mesh. Underdrive in just the rear (standard up front) gives better climbing and turn radius since the front wheels turn slightly faster. It's a bit harder on the drive train but IMO one of the best mods there is to improve crawling ability.

I'm running roc412 3100 mmp HD underdrive gears in the diff, hot racing Trans gears, and 56/12 on 3s no problems. You should love it.

SCREAMER, judging by your pic above, I guess this is what I need for an AX10 case in the Wraith? TorqueMaster Extended Outdrive for Axial Transmission - Drivetrain

This would allow standard Wraith driveshafts to work with the AX10 case, correct? Looking at MIP or the SSD Scale steel shafts. Probably the SSDs. Those are sweet. Gotta get my hands on a VP AX case now!

I'm on the slow technical crawl end of the discussion and run a castle MMX with a roc412. I run 12/93 48 pitch gearing and underdrive ring and pinions both ends. If you do a lot of high traction crawling you want the tires to turn at the same speed, if you need more wheelspeed (spin) the combo stock or overdrive front/underdrive rear has its advantages.

Thanks msrace. I'll definitely be doing underdrive in both ends. Anybody know if VP plans to restock the AX10 transmission case? Seems they're impossible to find?

Welp, I just picked up a Super Shafty AX10 complete bomb proof trans in VP RED! (exactly what I wanted!) w/6mm extended outputs that was for sale in the Classifieds, so my trans needs are met. Looks like I'll be going with Wraith MIPs since this trans came with the 6mm MIP adapters. Guess I need to pick up a 10T 32P pinion and my trans gearing is done. On to the next item on the list!
