Default 2 Speed Transmission

Still learning a lot here.

When would you need a two-speed transmission? If I am mainly crawling and not racing is it needed?

Thanks!

A two speed trans isn't needed unless you have it geared strictly for rock crawling, unless want to have the option to go fast with it geared low. If I wanted the best of both worlds,I would go with a sensored lower turn brushless motor. But if you decide to go with a brushless motor you have to change the esc to a brushless one and the gear it accordingly. There's a whole lot more info. than I can give in the Wraith section to see what other folks on here has done to theirs and give you an idea of the direction you want to go with yours.

I use a rc4wd ax-2 in my wraith and love it. I wanted a wraith that was kind of a do all rig and that's why I went with a 2 speed. I run a roc412 3100kv and a mamba monster x and with this setup I have the drag brake on when in first gear and no drag brake in second gear. It works awesome for crawling and bashing.

I've also got an AX2 in my Wraith and it's a ton of fun but paired with a brushless motor it's overkill. I tried to make my Wraith an all-around rig but have since relegated it to just bashing and trailing. All the upgrades and tweaks required to make it a reliable, stable basher inhibit the ability to crawl well.
