| HH torquemaster brxl and motor
So after running stock motor for awhile I figured it was time for a upgrade so I ordered the Holmes hobbies torquemaster brxl and torquemaster expert 540 40 turn and I have a few questions I believe I read my stock gearing will work fine with this setup and I'm wondering will I lose speed over the stock motor or will it stay about the same and since it has a built in BEC do I also need a external castle BEC thanks in advance for your input

Stock gear ratio will be ok The stock Wraith motor is 20T & you're fitting a 40T, it's going to be slower, even if on 3s as opposed to 2s on the stock, it'll be slower. BRXL has 5amp 6v BEC which should be ok on most basic servos. Obviously if you have a HV (7.4v) servo it's not going to be enough & even some of the 6v servos can draw over 5amps. Try it & see how it goes, can always add an external BEC later if your having brown out issues. |

Gearing too tall creates more resistance and heat, both to the motor and BR/XL. Excessive heat can be unfriendly to both the motor and esc. So be watchful with observing your motor temps as that could be an enemy. 160* or less would see the motor surviving it's consumable life longer. I run the HH's BR/XL W 35t TM expt. motor geared 87/14 But I also sport 5.80" tires which effect the the over-all gearing. So be sure to take your tire height into account. The BR/XL and 35t TM IMO is a great combination of having torque along with some tire spin if wanted. Top speed is dictated by gearing selection. But generally a crawler is not supposed to be fast... just lots of torque to force its way thru a bind or stall. The 40t will spin with slightly less rpm. But the trade off will be a slight increase in torque and smoother operator control by being slightly more linear in it's throttle curve. Tho' in reality... probably not a huge difference between running a 35t Vs. a 40t using 2s. But running on 2s would be less then exciting IMO. So I'd have to recommend 3s, 4s or even 6s for more low end punch. My 35t becomes just warm to the touch using 3s - 6s But 2s and if over geared... tends to run hotter in my experience. That's why it is commonly stated with 3s - 6s use = volt up/gear down Both my BR/XL and HH's 35t TM expt motor is up to 6s use. So I'd assume the HH's 40t is too. (tho' I've not run that one to be 100% sure) But using 3s will bring a little more gusto and likely longer run times simply because that voltage is more efficient. Here's my experience using HH's components... https://youtu.be/J1BMM51y25M ^ ran 4s as well... but didn't bother recording that. Last edited by TacoCrawler; 03-24-2017 at 01:50 PM. |
