Default Wanting my cake and eating it too. Will this motor help?

Got my Wraith going and having fun with it except it seems to be less capable in rougher terrain than my Yeti.
The Wraith seems to be short on needed wheel speed to dig itself up and over obstacles with the cheep 55t motor. I suppose that was to be expected but now I need a solution that will work with my esc and maintain the smooth slow speed of the 55t while giving me a much needed boost in wheel speed when I need it.
I'm concidering this motor. TorqueMaster Pro 540. How will this work out in a nearly stock Wraith with a Hobbywing Crawler Brushed esc and stock gearing and for what I want it to do should I get the 27t or the 35t.
Sorry for ll the noob style questions but after all what would you expect from a new guy. Thanks for any help.

27 turn should fit the bill just fine. What model of HW esc are you using? I'm running a 550 sized 21 turn, with the HW 1080. I could probably use a little more wheel speed, but it seems sufficient for trailing. I did gear down slightly when I went to 32pitch spur and pinion, but offset that with taller tires as well.

Just wondering about this too... currently I have a cheap HK sensored system (intended for TC & 1/10 buggy racing) in there. 3700kv 2s. Not enough drag brake or torque at startup. Plenty of wheel speed though on stock gearing (wraith spawn 32p 12t). Thinking of going brushed.

1080wp seems like a no-brainer when it comes to brushy ESCs. But would, say, a regular Mabuchi 540 silver can be enough to push the Wraith around? Maybe get a dozen of them for 50$?

In my Wraith I had great success with the Traxxas Titan 550 21T brushed motor until recently I upgraded to brushless.

I have this exact motor in my wraith, 27t. Hooked up to a BRXL. I love it, my bro has the crawlmaster, its smoother IMO. I ended up gearing it way down for strictly crawling, I think 11 or 9 tooth pinion and 87t spur

You running 2s or 3s?
If 2s might be worth try borrowing a 3s & seeing how you like it, it'll be a noticable increase in torque & speed, drag brake will still be good as opposed to bit less with 27t. If you pick up more speed than you were planning you can even be look to gear down on pinion size.
55 on 3s should run a bit cooler than 27 on 2s too.

I thought about it. Maybe I'll give it a try but I'll have to make some changes first. My 3s batteries will not fit in the stock location on the Wraith.
I still would like to get a better motor. I was going to stick to 2s in this truck just to keep it simple more reliable with stock parts but I've allready broken my vow and upgraded some stuff lol.

You don't want the battery in the stock position. Move it up front , many sources for a inexpensive plate . I have the werty made flavor, allows me to use a 4300 3s

And you can keep your electronics up front if wanted, plenty of space
My pic is missing a bar, that is now in and battery fits like shown using stock Velcro

I run a 35 turn modified motor in my Wraiths, and dropped the pinion 1 tooth. They crawl extremely well on 2 S and for trail running they move out with a 3S battery.

So if I were to succumb to temptation and install a Puller Pro BL 540 Standard in say 2200 or 2700 kv and a MambaX how much low speed smoothness and throttle control would I lose compared to a good brushed system?

I would say none as they are low kv 4 pole sensored motors, 2700kv on 3s should be great.
My Wraith has an older Tekin 13.5t (~3400kv) 2 pole sensored brushless, is on 3s & is smooth all though the throttle range & has great drag brake.
Ditto the 3500kv Pro4 in my Bomber.
A 2700kv will be smoother still.

I had a 2pole 17.5 (2650)sensored Tekin, and the truck was fun. I dropped in a PP3500 and now it's insane fun. Incredible slow speed control, to torque twisting violent hole shots. I can drop the pinion 1 or 2 from my current 12 and it will drop a bit of top end. The BLE works well, wish it had the aux function. (JRH are you listening ?) you won't go wrong with any flava Puller Pro .

And was a drop in , no trimming needed
