Default Is There A Mod Kit To Turn the Wraith Into An 8th Scale Rig?

As the title says, I'm interested in a larger Wraith. Is there an existing conversion kit or mod kit to make it pretty straight forward to increase the size? I'm hoping for about 8th scale size, but I'm not comfortable with trying to cobble it together on my own with a combination of unrelated parts. The only crawlers I've ever owned are a LNC and a Ridgecrest. I like them, but want something bigger. I've never owned a Wraith and would love to if I can enhance the size.

What's 8th size? compared to your usual 1:10 scale vehicle it already is 1/8ish. BTW it would fit a 1:6 Suzuki Samurai body perfectly regarding wheelbase and track width for example! If you just want to make it bigger, longer links (with some magic in the front for servo clearance) and wider offset wheels and/or extenders would do the trick.

You may be better off starting with a large scale rig to begin with and then modifying from there to get the look you want. Exceed Max Stone comes to mind. Basically like a large Ridgecrest.

What kind of driving do you plan on doing with it? Bashing, trail riding, crawling, all of them?

Compared to other 1:10 scale trucks the Wraith is pretty big. or at least it feels that way carrying it home after a break.

Find some pictures of what you want the finished product looking like and we can help better direct you from there.

The Max Stone 5 looked intriguing to me at first. However, it looks to me like it needs a lot of improvement. Then I found out it only has one major source of parts and they are often out of stock. I don't need that aggravation, so it's off my list.

Believe it or not, I actually gave serious thought to the RC4WD Killer Krawler 2 kit because it is just so damn sexy. Unfortunately, based on video I've seen, it does not crawl all that well. So, it's off the list too. My pocketbook thanks me for that.

Still under consideration is the RC4WD Bully II MOA Kit. It is the size I want and the kit seems to be a fair price. I am not personally familiar with the quality of RC4WD kits, but it seems to be well regarded. However, I've never had an MOA and don't feel the need for one. I do want something that craws well, though, and it seems to do that in spades based on nearly every video I've watched.

I have a lot of RC trucks. Most of them are 1/10 and 1/8 GO FAST rigs. I also have a Summit that is a decent crawler that is also fun in high gear. Therefore, all I really want at this time is a crawler. It does not have to support any other functions. I want to be able to have it wow friends (and me) by climbing ridiculous angles and by showing off amazing articulation.

But, back to the Wraith. I've always wanted one. I like that it is a shafty. I want it to be the size of the Bully 2 and climb almost as well. So, is that even possible? I'm great at assembling conversion kits, but not so great at inventing my own parts.

Sounds like you’re really looking for a Super class crawler.

You actually hit it right on the head. I've researched those and I love them! Unfortunately, it seems that nobody sells a kit, so they tend to get lovingly custom assembled using parts from multiple sources. I love assembling and modding, but I don't think I've got it in me to build a super from scratch. Maybe I can find someone's build where they list all the parts they used. I could work to that. If I'm wrong and there IS a kit available from someone, please let me know.

A Wraith (& the Bomber for that matter) is physically bigger than the Bully2 crawler.
It's unlikely either will perform quite as well as a properly set-up comp crawler, either shafty or MOA, the CoG disadvantages of the scale type chassis works against them but they do pretty well all the same.

The nearest you'll find to anything bigger thats worth having will be a Super from DLux, but you're rapidily heading above $2500 by the time you've filled your cart there & add electrics.
it is pure crawler p..o..r..n though

RC Porn gets me in trouble! It causes me to have urges to spend money!

I don't have a local hobby store to go look at rigs, so I looked up the specs on the various rigs we have discussed. I was surprised at how rather regular-sized the Bully II MOA is. The WB is only 12.5". As you stated, both the Wraith (13.9" WB) and Bomber (14.75" WB) are larger. Since I really don't care about MOA, the B2MOA is now off my wish list. The Bomber, however, really intrigues me. I've never looked at it before because I always thought it was just another version of the Wraith. I had no idea it could have an optional 2-speed transmission. I like that idea because it works well for me on the Summit. What do you think of the Bomber kit? Is it capable and reliable? Is there anything that is a "must replace" as soon as you buy the kit?

Just FYI: I had looked into the Yeti XL because it fits into my idea of the size I wanted. I also liked that it could be 2-speed. However, when I was reading posts in the Yeti forum, there were several people who, even though they love their Yeti's, said that Axial has not been addressing problems and they would not recommend the Yeti to someone else. I was surprised, but I appreciated their candor.

The yeti xl is very reliable on 3s but its not a crawler they sell lockers for it so it could be zet up to crawl but it is what it is i have a maxstone 5 also it was a fun rig it might be fine if left stock but if modded at all it becomes a money pit but then they all do but the max stone cant be upgraded there are only a few upgrades available and there usaly out of stock

Thank you, Ferp, for that info. Do you know anything about the Bomber kit? It may be my best bet.

Well there is the whole Bomber sub-forum, but what do you want to know about the kit? Scale Rigs Brand Specific Tech - Axial RR10 Bomber at RCCrawler.com

I'm heading over there now. However, sometimes the model specific forum members can be rather biased. Therefore, when I asked here, it was just to get a different perspective. My two biggest questions on the Bomber would have to be reliability (especially axles) and whether the 2-speed option works well. THANKS!

I liked what I've read and watched regarding the Bomber. Therefore, I will enjoy building the Bomber Kit that I just ordered. I'll be reading the Bomber forum for advice on building it right.
