Default Recommendations for shocks that don't suck?

My stock XR10 shocks are leaking like crazy. I've been filling them per Brandon's instructions, very carefully. Any suggestions for some better quality shocks that would fit?

Well....Most people run Losi shocks....Same size pretty much....But they leak
more then any shock... doesn't mean they don't work...Just keep refelling them
or rebuild them. From my experience with shocks...I would say just Run the
Axial shocks. You can bash them for a few good months before you need to
fiddle with refilling or rebuilding...Just my opinion.

Just installed my Traxxas Big Bores and love them.

I am going to give the Axials another shot, just have to have time to go through them.

Traxxas Big Bores work well.

My Axial shocks haven't leaked a drop. When I assembled them I actually assembled the whole cartridge OVER the shock shaft, as in, o-ring/spacer/o-ring over the shaft and then snapped together the cartridge body over the top.

That way there is zero preload on the o-rings as they go over the threads on the shaft.

Maybe before going too crazy, try grabbing some more o-rings and assembling them that way as see how you go.

Did you do the 4" Big Bores with a rod end mod to make them long enough?

I couldnt stand the first pair of axial shocks I had, they never stopped leaking. This time around I took a little extra time building them and the have been flawless. Great shock IMO

Mine do not leak. Follow bender's step by step on the Axial blog. Get new bladders and o-rings because there's a chance these were damaged during assembly. The traxxas bladders work good too. Give this a try as a cheaper alternative before giving up on them. They should not leak if assembled correctly and there aren't any faulty o rings or bladder.

I am going to run mine till i see a reason to replace them.

However I love my HPI firestorm rear hop up shocks on the berg. The ones I run are anodized orange, but i cannot find them on hpi's site anymore. The blitz hop up rear shocks look fairly decent though.

Ok I'll try rebuilding them again. I did follow Bender's guide (I said Brandon but meant Bender). I'll try building them over the shaft this time too. If that fails I'll give Traxxas a try. What part number would that be? And would I need to modify them at all?

In other news, after about 6 or 7 packs I finally busted up the gears in my rear axle. Got a little bound up, heard a pop, then it was all over. Good thing I ordered a few extra gears.

My God, please, please someone build us some stronger gears!!!

Default shocks

I removed the bladder and just put so teflon on the treads.
working great for me.I don't like bladders I am going to find some orings that fit the cap and try that if they leak. Imo the shocks are great smooth and just the right size.

The big bores are a great shock...Just have to add the spacers to adjust your
preload...

The way to make the stock comp shocks not leak is to get some better rubber seals. I got mine at a sink hardware store. No more leaks. The stock seals seem to be a hair too thin.

If you want the best shocks, bar none, get some Kyosho RT5 rear shocks. I have been running them on my LNC for about 6 months now and they are absolutely the best shocks you can get, no question about it. They are a little spendy, but worth it in my opinion.

If you take your time and follow Bender's and/or Holy Roller's (Becky's) directions on how to build up these shocks you should have zero leaking issues. You need to take particular care not to damage the o-rings when assemblying the shocks. Another thing that I have found that helps is to make sure you deburr any of the mold marks were could possibly be a clearance issue. Hope this helps. Holy Roller and I have been running these shocks for sometime now and have had no issues. There are great shocks in my opinion.

Ok I'll give it another try. I did follow Bender's instructions carefully but I guess I may have damaged an o-ring.
