| Greatscott's M2 XR-10 (Mod1)
Some of the best things in life start with a dream... ...and a box. I knew I'd be waiting for the Novak M2 to come out, so I took my time building this thing. I also kept a close eye on your threads about what was going wrong with the tranny; getting to talk to the guys from Axial at the last SD comp didn't hurt either. I had heard the room for the electronics was cramped, but damn!!! I modified the electronics tray to make more room and allow me to move the ESC back just a little bit. The M2 does everything it claims and does it well. The set up is easy as long as you don't have 3-4 beers in you... The fan for it is a little noisy, but it is cool that it comes with the fan and the LEDs for the dig. After hearing all of the horror stories about the rear transmission blowing up I was really nervous about the first run, I was thinking about calling a couple of my EOD friends and borrowing a bomb-suit. After one pack I had some tranny problems, I didn't tighten the front motor tight enough and ended up shreading the pinion. After putting in Losi pinions I've ran a couple more packs through it with no problems with the drive train. I'm running the stock weight in the wheels, it needs more... The spings are way too stiff.. Novak M2- -The proportional dig is very cool. When clod-stall starts I just put a little more power to the rear motor and up it goes. Going from an AX-10 to a MOA, I've found a bit of clod-stall useful, the truck doesn't automatically want to flip backwards. -This ESC needs an external BEC. Under light use, the ESC BEC works fine, but when you are using a lot of steering and on the throttle the BEC gets overloaded. Here is what I am running: ESC: Novak M2 Motors: Novak 45T Batteries: Hyperion 3S 1100mha 45C Steering: Hitech 7955TG Tires: HB Rovers (White) Radio: DX3R (RX-3100) BEC: CC BEC (10A) (When I install it) Last edited by Greatscott; 11-11-2010 at 06:47 PM. |

Tight. How's that 7955 working for you? I got one for mine and was worried it wouldn't be enough for the XR.

The servo itself is fine, but the BEC lacks the power to push it properly when you are using it a lot. I've got my BEC set for 6.5V, I'll see how it does when I install it.

Very nice. Are you running the novak black cans? Or do you have the combo M2 kit with the closed cans? Never mind I see you have the black cans. |

Does the front dig work in reverse on your M2?

I just installed the BEC and tested it, front and rear digs work in both directions. |

| If you look at the chassis side plates they are not symmetrical. The longer side by design goes to the rear. Staring at the skid follow the chassis lines up, when you get to the shock mounts you will see the short side and long side. In the picture below you can see it easy. On the plate pictured on top the right side is the rear, the bottom plate the left side is the rear. Last edited by DickyT; 11-04-2010 at 07:41 AM. |

OH!!! I see what you are talking about. I took a lot of time with the axels to make sure I got them together right, by the time I got to the chassis I just wanted the thing put together. Everything works fine, no binding, no clearance issues and aside from needing more weight, it climbs really well. If I get boarded after this weekend's comp I'll rip it apart and turn them around. Yes, the proportional dig works, very well. This is how I have my DX3R set up: • Two position - I have this set up on switch F (bottom switch on the grip) - Switches between 4WD and Front dig - Doesn't matter if I have the dig selected fully or proportionally, when I hit this I go back into full 4WD. - If it is in 4WD it switches the truck to front dig • 3 Position - I have this on switch C (above the steering wheel and to the right) - Switches between 4WD, full front dig, & full rear dig • Linear - I have this on Switch B (right above the steering wheel) - Proportianlly moves the power from full 4WD to the front or rear. |

Thanks for the comments Addict!!! As for as the chassis goes, it looks like I am in good company, most of the XR10 I have seen out in the wild have had their chassis backwards, either on purpose, or in my case, lack of paying attention. I was thinking about flipping it around, but it did pretty damn good in yesterday's comp. Of all of the tweaking I need to do one this truck, that is at the bottom of the list. |

Today I did some mods, I figured that I might as well flip the chassis around while I was at it... I modified the electronics tray, I was all set to start construction of one made out of 6mm plexi, but in the end I just shaved the stock one, a little... I had to move everything about 5mm foward, the rear uppers were rubbing on the RX. The mod allows me to move the ESC and RX way back on the chassis, allowing more room for the battery and to mount the BEC. I also shaved the front of the tray, the batteries are a lot easier to get in and out now. I also made a bracket for the dig lights for the M2 (made it out of the plexi I was going to use for the tray) The LEDs are wedged in now, I need to get some Shoe Goo to make it a little more shock resistant. This bracket wasn't that hard to make, but it might be something the big-brains with the blue stars might think about producing... Thanks for looking... |
