Hi All Made this prototype servo mount today and got it fitted. It lifts the servo up 13mm up allowing more clearance. I did do a search on the forum but nothing came up, has anything like this been done before and if so have there been any issues? I will test run this over the next few arvos to see if there are any real advantages or disadvantages out on the rocks. Feedback appriciated!!! |

Some may not want to sacrifice the loss in COG, although negligible. Let us know how you like it |

I agree that its way too high so its not worth sacrificing your COG If it was half the height it may be some type of advantage |

Thought of this a long time ago but decided the cons out weighed the pros.

And his servo is already flipped so the horn is not really an issue. I could understand raising it 2 - 5mm, maybe He could gain some forward clearance by mounting the rod end behind the horn. If it is double thickness like robotronic then just grind it off Last edited by Rig Rocker; 04-13-2011 at 05:14 PM. | |

Just out of curiosity what does an aluminum servo guard weigh? They seem pretty popular and they're adding weight above the servo. Maybe they're just very light, huh? I know that servo weighs around 65 grams but I can't find a listed weight on any servo guards. Just asking--I really have no idea what they weigh. |

No testing as yet, hopefully this arvo!! I realize the cog lift may be an issue but can only try! If it doesn't work it doesn't work. Nothing ventured nothing gained!(or not) I have been finding on the terain we crawl at a couple of our spots that the servo horn has been hitting rock and some binding! just trying something to fix the issue but may create another! Not sure of the weight of the servo gaurd, I will check it out when I can! |

Interesting... I usually try to LOWER my servo mounts as much as possible, COG reasons. If you are really looking to gain clearance for the servo arm, i would try to mount the servo as low as possible and flip the servo arm 180* so it points up. Then you run the risk of bending the arm in a rollover, not to mention it puts your draglink at a less than ideal angle (and looks dumb) I would just get a heavy duty servo arm, like the Robotronics arm and run it in the stock position, that servo arm is really strong and takes a LOT to bend. . |
