Default Chaotic Chassis/Links...Shocks/springs? to use?

Thinking about pulling the trigger and getting the chaotic chassis and links.

Any recommendations for shocks? Springs? Or any other setups worth looking at? I thought this setup was good because the chassis and links go hand in hand, no bending or wasting links...since I've never done that before...

Thanks!

Check out a few of these builds. They'res a lot of info in here for setups and tuning advice.

The chassis and links make a great starting platform and the performance is fantastic. I highly recommend pulling the trigger on them together.

I have got on my Berg with chaotic chassis the Traxxas BigBore 3,5" shock with mini-t springs and it works great.

Ok sweet. I found the losi 4" shocks, part#losa5082. I looked up Losi golds and found a handful of golds with different spring rates. Is there a common set to use? Part# maybe?

I had 47 in big bores on mine and could not get it to work like I though it should I went to a 3.5 Big bore and it started to work much better I would go that way.

I've read about using scx10 shocks, which appeals more because of the price. Now does anyone know if I gotta get different spring cups to run mini t springs? I saw JeepinDoug makes some machined derlin cups, do I NEED them?

Or can I run these on stock scx10 shocks?... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Losi-2-75-Sp...item2a17d512db

I use 3.5" big bores in the front with mini-t springs and 4" in the rear with mini-t springs(4" are external limited)

big bores are cheaper then the scx10 shocks I bought...Alum scx10's cost almost $70 IIRC...and they take some work to get them not to leak and extra parts to make them long enough.

hit up Wickedwolferc in the vendor section if you decide to go to the traxxas big bores he sells the modified shock caps, you can pick up the shocks caps and Jeepindougs spring retainers for the mini t springs all in one place.

I personally run the Big Bores and they work well. I know Chris aka paystin runs the SCX plastic bodied shocks and likes em. LCCs work good but you'll wanna limit em down a little to get your ride height a little lower. I also have a set of stock XR shocks that Ive been playin with and they also work good. The trick is getting on the rocks and figuring out what works for YOUR rig. We all have different setups so what might work well for one might not for another.

The Wicked Wolf caps ARE cool but they'll make your Big Bores a little too long unless you limit em. I personally don't see the need for inverted shocks and think the trade off for the tiny bit lower cg isn't worth the inconsistent shock travel. Again...thats just my opinion.

So what's the trick for the stock Xr shocks? ...of coarse I have a set of those haha

I mean around $40 for big bores, about $45 in mods...ouch, not including the chassis and links

I know I know. I thought I learned after building heli's for years. When you get in trouble with one of those, parts really add up fast. Just trying to justify the estimate of $300 for a chassis/links/suspension on top of the hundreds and hundreds we all know that it take from the start.

I just like to get my ducks in a row before I start buying stuff.

Theres no real trick. I stood em off of the chassis about 5mm for a little more clearance, internally limited em about the same, externally limited the rears about 10mm an run Losi golds all the way around. I'll try to post a few pics if that'll help.

But these things are going to depend on your rig. Things like total running weight, bias, link position, drive style, terrain etc etc etc all have an affect on suspension. I've been tuning a suspension bug for about a month and finally got her dialed out...I hope.

Point is...I tried running a similar setup to Paystin while we were out practicing and what worked for his rig, didn't do so well on mine. That being said...any of the Chaotic builds that Chris listed ARE good jumping off points and you can contact any one of the Chaotic drivers and we'll be happy to help ya anyway we can.
