| RC4WD Hardened Steel gear set UnObtainium???
Hi everyone, Does anyone know who else sells the Hardened steel replacement gear sets from RC4WD for the XR10? They are still making them, right?? I have checked RPP, CKRC and RC4WD and they all say "out of stock". Please tell me that Axial didn't make them quit producing the set, did they? Any ideas on who has some in stock still? I need 2 to 4 sets (at least two of them anyway).

I did a search recently (last week???) for these, the only place that had them in stock was in Canada. I bought a different set from Tower Hobbies for a short term fix. Since I've had issues, I would recommend to "Stay Away" from the H-R gears. We had issues, they have not replied to a few emails for help. |

Those gears just sell out fast. Last time I bought 2 sets when they showed in stock and they were sold out again a day later. You just need to keep checking, or source another option.

"Mad rush to buy up gearsets....." I did a PN search through Google, all hits came up "out of stock" except for one place in Canada. Link to Horizon Hobby page.... Hardened Steel Replacement Gear: XR10 | Horizon Hobby ....in stock.... JP Customs page.... RC4WD Hardened Steel Replacement Gear Set for XR10 ..... Out of stock. | Re: RC4WD Hardened Steel gear set UnObtainium??? Charlie, What was the issue that you had with the HR gears? My brother just got a set of them and he was having some problems too right off the bat. Did you get them direct from the company or from CKRC (which is where he got them)? Who did you email? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to set up a plan of action that my bro will no doubt have to be taking soon with his HR gear problem. |

Bought from an online shop in New England. There are 2 shafts with a 12T (?) gear cut into the shaft and a 36T (?) gear pressed onto the shaft (stock parts have the larger gear pinned on......my son broke the shaft where the pin hole is). For both shafts, the larger gear spun on the shaft. Shaft is really too hard to drill. Welding it on will likely either warp the gear or remove the hardness. I did a temp fix, but it only lasts a pack or 2. My thread.... Hot Racing hardened gear set issues... Last edited by Charlie-III; 05-04-2012 at 06:49 AM. Reason: Added thread link....

I'd wait for the RC4WD ones. They are worth it. Aside from having to grind the screw that holds the 4 link plate on to clear the gear they are awesome. I just tore my axles down the other day to instal my VP axle tops and they gears are in perfect shape after 2 seasons of crawling. re-greased and reassembled. no changes |

The CKRC gears are the Hot Racing gears. Quote:
It has been my experiance that JPCustoms site says in stock when it is not. I have used all the gears made except the new Hot Racing light weight gear set, and it dosent come with the final drive gear. So for the price and no final gear I wont be trying them. Stock: The 12T Transfer, 22T Drive, and 36T Final gears must be replaced at a minimum. The rest are fine. Hot Racing: I only used the HR gears to replace the above gears. The 12T worked fine. I broke teeth off the 22T, broke teeth off 1 final, cracked the center of another where the axle goes in, and had another that was cut off center and wobbled. Axial Machined: Awesome if you can deal with the popping, or can shim it out. Only really need the 12T transfer, 22T, and 36T final. RC4WD: Were out fast, and sloppy mesh. I have folded over the teeth on the 22T and 36T final on 2 sets due to were.

Yikes! I am not going to buy any gear sets except RC4WD or Axial hardened (although at half the price, the RC4WD get's my vote ) I will stay clear of the HR stuff. As for an update: My bro contacted CKRC and spoke directly with someone there. They are going to fully refund his money, (they offered to send him new sets but he declined). He's already on the waiting list for some RC4WD gear sets. I am too. |
