I think most folks will tell you that some positive caster (top kingpin is behind the lower kingpin) is beneficial. Just pull off the knuckle and c-hub and rotate that c-hub back some. Make sure the c-hub is clocked back the same on both sides.

With the vp knuckles, use max caster so slot is all the way back If you clock the axle to gain more motor ground clearance, extend the slot or drill two holes to enable you to clock the knuckle back again More caster gives you more steering lock capability as the tyre doesn't hit the shocks so easy as it's under the back of the shock |

I took that info from Chaotic Crawlers : "When your C is in the full clocked back position you need the Straight Tierod." Emmanuel. |

A straight link with your knuckles clocked back is not necessary. But with a bent tierod it will hang down lower and not give you as much clearance.

A truck with higher caster angles will typically turn better, and dig harder, but this is due more from the weight loading the tires. The actual steering gain due to shock and link clearance is pretty minimal, and is somewhat negated by the tire rollover due to the high caster angle. | |
