Default Suspension Geometry - Help!!!!!!

Posted this in the general crawlers section but didn't receive any responses, so I thought I would try here.

I just don't get suspension geometry . I have already searched: geometry, 4-link, wheelbase, and link placement but haven't found one thread that really that covers it. If there is a good thread out there please post a link otherwise I have a few questions with respect to the XR10 that I am trying to setup:

Should the wheelbase change when going from full droop to full compression?

What does changing the upper front link placement do (at the chassis and at the axle)?

What does changing the upper rear link placement do (at the chassis and at the axle)?

Yes your wheel base will change a little depending on your ride height/lower link angles. With your lower links perfectly parallel to the ground, that should be your max wheel base.

Adjusting your upper links will change your amount of squat/anti squat. Moving your links up on the chassis end will achieve more squat.

Of course. Those links will move in an arc and push and pull on the wheelbase.

It will adjust pinion angle (on a shafty) as well as caster, anti-dive and a whole slew of other suspension aspects.

Here is some good basic reading material:
Suspension (vehicle) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And one of the best threads on this site:

Use the search function, I know I've posted a few paragraphs on the subject myself... Search "link placement", hopefully the articles are still up. Also try searching "instant center", "center of gravity", "center of lift", "antisquat geometry", both on here and on the 1:1 crwaler sites. Also check for "suspension fundamentals"

I should have asked how much should the wheelbase change. I have one rig that it only changes about 1/16" and another that is close to 1/4". Thanks for the links I will read through them.

This was in the manual, it should help... It should also apply to pretty much every chassis.

There is a link calculator on pirate 4x4 somewhere. it of course is for 1:1 vehicles but the idea is the same. Google "suspension link calculator"

That will be a difficult one to answer as a general question. You'll need to know more about the specific chassis in use and how long the links are.
