I would check out the Harley's XR10 build sticky at the top. The M2 has a lot of issues and for about the same money you could do a dual castle mamba pro setup.

I just did the dual mamba pro setup myself the ESC is $80 X 2 so $160. Then I went with 2x Integy 45t so $20 a piece = $40 there. Total was only $200 and with your budget you could easily do Holmes Hobbies handwounds instead if you wanted a little more high end motors.

My thoughts were I don't mind upgrading motors later on but I wanted to get the best ESC the first time around.

Another ESC option is dual FXR but that will cost you even more. Also this assumes you have a decent radio such as a 4pl.

dx3c will work well with the 3 position switch. its in between the two you mention, and most of my club run them. You are limited for upgrading to dual ESC.

I originally planned on a single esc + dig, but after lots of research I decided to go dual sidewinder micro's and a hacked gt3b, with some affordable machine wound team brood 35t's. I am ecstatic with the results. Love the proportional dig. i think I saved money in the long run with my choice.
