If you follow directions well, this is an easy kit to build. Most people on this site will tell you to check out holmeshobbies.com for your motors they have great products. as for 35 or 45 turn motors. I started with 45's liked them, but for comping I needed more wheel speed and got some 35's. It's all personal preference.

The 4PL is a great controller and is super easy to setup for the XR10. Check out the video here by Harley for setup: 4PL Dual ESC - YouTube

Stick with the Sidewinder micros and I'd suggest what Curcal did about motors, Holmes Hobbies are working great for me. As for the servo, get the Hitec 7950TH. Bit of money @ $150 but well worth it.

Here's your link for the hardened gears if you decide to get them: http://store.rc4wd.com/-Hardened-Ste...10_p_1381.html

My budget build, which I am pretty happy with,

2x sidewinder micros ($60 ea)
2x Team Brood 35t machine wound Intensity ($33 ea)
Flysky GT3B ($40)
Hack kit ($25)
Hitec 7954 ($85)
Castle BEC ($10)

I don't find it lacking in torque or wheel speed. flysky gives me lots of options for dig. The servo is adequate. I really wouldn't consider anything under 400 oz/in.

You will need either a castle link, or a friend with a castle link, to program your sw micros for brushed/crawler duty.

For a servo check out the Hitec 5995 at ServoCity for $70.

You can definetely run a stick controller.... its all preference... I currently use a Spectrum DX-7... i already had it so i decided to use it and i love it... The Futaba 4pl and 4pk are also great transmitters...

A cc bec works with any servo. It just needs setup for voltage as it comes from the factory a 5.1v

As far as gears go, I would do the two screw mod to the rear axle when you put it together. The stock gears will last with it and will take some punishment as well. Replace them as they break. Get some VP knuckles to improve the steering and do a one piece tierod as well. Tons of stuff on here to research. Holmes Hobbies motors are what I run and John has some great customer service as well.

Look for Mark Reel's XR10 Build. It's on Page 6 of the thread.

A lot of the high torque savox are oversized. They won't work. Confirm they are 38mm.

I visit both rcc and urc regularly. If you think you should get crawler specific advice from URC, enjoy...
