Default Tie Rod Help

I wanted to upgrade my steering on my XR10 so I did the tie rod mod. I bought a second axle and modified the bottom piece (cut off stock slide) and installed the motor, c-hubs and knuckles. I clocked the c-hubs in the full back position. Everything went great. I then installed the tie rod and there is something wrong. The wheels do not line up properly. It seems like the tie rod is too short. I measured the rod and from end to end (no rod ends included) and it was 4 7/8 inches. The rod included the revo rod ends. Or, and this is a very real possibility, I installed it wrong. See the pics below to see what I'm talking about. If anyone has any advice or a fix for this I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Looks like the wrong tie rod, when you order you need to get the one for the particular steering knuckles on your truck. Had this happen to me!

Homie you gonna have to have a longer tierod. Chaotic Crawlers has a buy and bolt in piece that will save you a bunch of time

The one Chaotic selling is for Vp Knuckle OR axial knuckle, look like you has the axial one, just make sure you choose the right one....

Which tie rod did you buy? Was it the VP version?

Never thought I'd see one of those Level 3 "diff guards" here on RCC

That's certainly not a tierod for an XR10, VP or otherwise. Almost looks like a link as short as it is. This is the one you need: Axial Steering Tierod

Make sure you select the correct one for your knuckles (Axial or VP). If you've clocked the hubs, you want straight.

I put a thread in the Wanted section on here and someone answered it. He said it wasnn't specifically for the XR10 but that he used it on his XR and it worked. I am going to try a different set of rod ends that he sent with the tierod, but I'm afraid it's still gonna be too short. What's the deal with the diff guard? I saw it on ebay and I thought it would be a good addition, try and save some wear on the axles.

The linked tierod is the one I'm gonna pick up if the different rod ends don't work. And I do have the hubs clocked with the Axial knuckles. I should have just bought that one first and not messed around oh well I guess it's a learning experience

It's aluminum. Not going to slide as well over rock. Also, going to take away some clearance as it'll hang down from the axle. Just leave it off. The axles are tough and can handle the abuse.

Also, longer rod ends aren't going to get you there. And the longer you go on the ends, the more of a weak point you put in the steering.

Right on, I'm gonna have to leave it off now with the tierod set up. I'm just trying to avoid having to buy a part I know I'm going to need to buy. I may as well put in my order now so that it might possibly ship out today .

This is where I was going with my 1st post. I was wondering if it was a VP link that would have come with Revo and Jato rod ends. Even though it's not I'd recommend trying the Jatos.

If you could measure the difference between the length you are at now EYE TO EYE versus what it needs to be to get the knuckles pointed straight we could tell you if the Jatos will fix the problem. Jatos aren't a problem with the steering links as much as with suspension links.

I'm gonna check when I get home, i think he sent some additional rod ends in the package and see if they work. But it's all a moot point though, I went ahead and ordered the tierod from chaotic crawlers. Thanks for all of the help everyone!

I tried the other rod ends and they worked but the tierod is too thick and rubs the motor. Oh well, it was worth a shot. At least I have the proper one coming in the mail
