Default 17mm Wheel Hexes!!

Anyone else have issues loosening the stock wheel nuts, I almost rounded off 2 of them.
I am going to try these 17mm Buggy Adapters I got off eBay for $8, the only issue they use a std straight pin thats held in by the wheel itself where the axial pin is like the Traxxas Revo & Summit and has a threaded pin.
May have to do a bit of modding but so far alot easier to get the wheel on and off..

Stock Wheel

Proline 3.8" 1/2 Offest Wheel

May need to get the capped 17mm nuts to clean it up

Thanks for posting this. Definitely getting some desperadoes and maybe some pre glued shoes from proline. I had desperadoes on my rustler with trenchers and they looked awesome

One of the Savage flux HP upgrades was to do this but they use a nyloc nut and thread it on backwards so the cone ends sits inside the 17mm hex cone. Just to keep the 17mm hex from wiggling around since the axle your hex sits on does not extend out to the end of your wheel hex. Hope this makes sense.

Thanks for this info. Ive just ordered two sets of proline desperadoes with proline sand tires premounted. I cant wait to let this beast rip foff style up some sand hills lol.

How is the turning with the new wheels. I read somewhere else that stock wheels are 1 1/2in offset which I thought couldnt be right. Does the 1/2in offset work fine for wheel and tire clearance?

Also I like the new hexes you have can you put up a link to where you got them? Thanks.

I find using an 8mm socket (I think that's the size) works great but you are right, overall this needs a better system. When I get a chance, I'm gonna try the traxxas 17mm hex system

I think you would have to bore out the center of the Traxxas hex a bit to slide over the axial shaft. I may try it as I prefer the locking pin system.

I like the screw in pin! I think I'll search for some and try them out.

There kind of pricey on EBay at $6-8 a pair plus shipping and no nuts.

I ended up getting a set of the Traxas Splined 17mm Hexes
Bored the center out to 8mm and its a perfect fit. Just add 2 8mm washers between the wheel hex and bearing carrier to take out the slop.

Thanks mate, I think I still have a set of those floating around somewhere, I'll try to find them and do the change straight out of the box.
