Default ESC/Motor combo - what are you running?

Looking to settle on a power plant for my as of yet unbuilt kit. Everyone seems to prefer Castle, sounds like the Mamba Monster X with a 1515 220kv motor is the no brainier option. I run all Hobbywing on my track cars. Is there a comparable HW combo to the Castle gear? Or is Castle the way to go? I've also seen talk about the Tekin truggy motors and an rx8 gen 2 esc. I know Tekin is a solid brand, but I'd be worried to get that combo wet or are you guys waterproofing them somehow?

Not looking for a fanboy flame war either way just real world experience as I've never used Castle.

Thanks guys and I can't wait to break some parts!

Well I might be putting my beta tester privileges on the line but this video shows the BS that C.C is pulling... I've contacted Thomas with no response
CHECK THIS VIDEO OUT OVER JUNK MMX , XLX, XL2 ...
they cut back power for 6s so they didn't void warrantee...

Traxxas MXL6 aka Castle Creation Blue Mamba Monster 2
Traxxas XO-1 1580kV aka Castle Creation Black 1717 - 1580kV.

Ran it on 8S for all of maybe 30sec. Total insanity.

Mine RTR sidewinder has held up thus far as well !! Shocking because Castle told me it was specked for a 7 lb vehicle ..
I've put it through hell but it still keeps ticking...

Oops! Sorry, was on another forum.

Before i cut my in half i was running a Hobbywing Quicrun 150 and a Hobbywing 4274SD 2100kV 17T Pinion.

The 4274SD was the same speed in a much heavier vehicle but a lot more TQ than my Yeti XL 2200kV aka Gold Castle Creation 1515 2200kV in a Losi 8T. To me it proved the 4274SD was/is a powerhouse w/TQ. So much that it is currently in my Losi Muggy Rebuild. That will feel like 7S for you odd counting fellows (Dionisi) with massive TQ.

The sidewinder system that comes with the rtr is pretty solid system, honestly have not heard to many complaints, I also have the sidewinder 8th in my arrma kraton with the flux tork 2200kv motor pretty solid system.

As far as castle cutting power on the X-series I doubt any of us would ever notice as basher smashing our yetis around, it is mostly the speed run guys pushing the esc to the limits then filing warranty claims against castle when they put to much juice thru it and it goes poof.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgXrHO6Y--0

My rtr YXL has has a quickrun 150a esc leopard 1480kv 4092, and my kit will be getting the MMX with Tekin 1550kv T8

Hobbywing stuff is great too I have never had one go out on me I have 3 quicruns 3 xeruns and two ezruns all solid esc's

Castle Creations XL2 with a TP 4050 brushless Motor- 2050kv.

I went with a higher KV then some but it still has an insane amount of torque. My idea at the time was not to put even more torque on the diffs. I've been running this set up since last summer and it's been a beast. I live in Southern Louisiana where it's stupid hot and humid in the summer. The stock ESC/motor combo kept overheating, so I dialed it up a notch. It's been cool runnings on 6s ever since. Oh yeah, it's really really fast! I've been wanting to mod the battery trays for some 4s bats, so I could try 8s... but work and kids have been killing me.

Well I have plenty of esc's to compare it too when I do get it up and running with the mmx, if their is a noticable difference castle will be getting a huge thumbs down as I purchased two of the mmx esc's, both are still sitting in the box.

Ya man !! I'm frankly scared to UPDATE the C.C link firmware on my sidewinder...

I'm gonna run it without hooking it up to C.C link at first... Plus I have telemetry for tuning needs and my servos will have a separate power source..

I'd like to see them come out with firmware that voided warrantee but unlocked extra potentials..

I don't quite understand what you are saying, you mean 4s and 6s are basically the same because of a cut back power from the software? According to these graphics they look really different to me. AND it feels really different out there!

My MMX run much better after the firmware upgrade. Before I've done that the ESC ran really foolish, with unexpected startup cutoffs.
This is how the graph looked before upgrade. ANd I have another graph looking even much, much worst. After that I've never had any issue.

dUMB me ...... I GUESS I WAS BELIVEING WHAT I SAW LIKE A FN TARD...
I really figured the guy knew MORE about the issue than the average basher like ME... I don't know many people that have 20 esc on hand or a 600 $ TX... (guessing on price ,Sorry I probably wrong)
I've got some money into my build and it's disappointing to THINK that I got effed on one of my key parts.. I guess that's me being unreasonable ... I should of NEVER SAID A THING.........

That was my conclusion after watching it 10 X and 3 request to my (Buddy) Thomas at C.C ...With NO response... I'm sure the company has several internal provisions (versions ) ... It might be like a lottery on which version runoff a buyer might receive.. This video is pretty recent...

Tzicul..... Do you have one of the first versions? Sorry for my dickish response.
