Default Tekin fxr 35T combo motor is running to hot

I just bought a tekin fxr t35 HD combo i put it in a rc4wd gelande 2 with stock gearing 14 t pinion ,64 t spur . Took it out today ran it for 20 min and the motor was very hot so I ran it in some water to cool it off . 5 min later it started smoking now it shutters and is very weak the esc was fine and never got warm is it my gearing or the motor

Gearing seems fine to me.
I'm not a tekin guy, do those motors come broken in? Could be that. Motor could be bad. First thing I'd do is check the motor brushes to see if they are correctly installed.

Change your spur to a 84t, that 64t is wayyyy to small. Its a gearing issue..but I'm use to higher spur gears so yeah, what battery are you running?

A 64/14 gear ratio is 4.57, which is fine. Not enough to burn a motor up, unless some other factors are at play.
The reason I asked about motor break in, is because the brushes take time to wear in. Which can cause, heat / smoke.
Take the motor apart, and show us pictures of the innards. If its black and sooty, like this... then it is time for repairs.
Have the comm lathed and purchase new brushes.

Spur gear is too small...places too much load on the motor, especially on 3s. Go up to at least an 80T spur.

These are 32p guys

Deadbolt985----Id say if you were not binding it up a bunch you had a bad motor. I have smoked a brushed motor a time or two playing in a rock pile and getting bound up time and time again.

Dousing a hot motor with water may not be a good idea either. Next time just let it sit and cool down before driving it again if you can.

Your gear ratio was fine. You can try dropping a tooth on the pinion if it'll make you feel better.

You need to add 6 to 12 degrees of forward timing to work with your driving style and voltage. I'm not sure if Tekin was still supplying laydown brushes, but they don't run well at zero degrees and 3s. If that doesn't help, binding in your drivetrain is probably the cause.

Gearing sound good for me, maybe just go down one t on the pinion if you have too much weight.....like mr Holmes told you before on this thread maybe you need to check your drivetrain before...good luck
