| Nuts that attach wheels to axle back off
I keep having the axles nuts back off the axles making the wheels loose. Is anyone having this issue as well. It seemed to have started when I changed the hubs to the vanquish hubs and even today after installing the gear hubs and wheels still had the same issue. Ive tried loctite as well. The only other idea I have is to get new nuts for the axles. Any suggestions? Thanks

After 3-4 wheel replacements the nylon insert within the nut tends to lose its bite on the threads. I'd try a new nut and see how it holds. Be sure that with your new wheels the nylon insert is actually engaging the stud. Some times wheels are to thick and as a result the nylon part of the nut runs off the axle stub. |

I'm using a Breaker bar with the 4 Lug Wrench to tighten my wheels. I get a good 1/3 turn more with it.. Granted, I'm not using 4s tho. Last edited by Zukiiholic; 11-02-2014 at 12:56 AM. |

Blue loctite and a quality 7MM nut driver plus quality nuts will get job done. I run Losi aluminuns on 4S-5S powered SCT and never loosened one. Blue loctite does wonders and a 7mm nut driver does wonders... Sent from a whiskey downer beer pounder's shop |

I'll try loctite because I'm loosing nuts every couple minutes.

I use a real 1/4" driver with a 7mm socket and tighten them down TIGHT. I Put two 3s packs through the pro4hd yesterday without them loosening up

While axles off with a rag sprayed in brake cleaner. The use green thread lock. No don't use green just use red, I have to do this for my 1/8running 4/5/6 s lipid at 60ish mph. |

Thanks for all the input. Ive been using blue loctite. They are still backing off. I think new nuts are in order. Ive had wheels off several times for various reasons. The nylon is catching I do that for sure. Its just wore out I think. I used a crescent wrench where you used that breaker bar. I will get new nuts loctite them and see what happens.

Granted I don't have a Yeti to confirm how many exposed threads are on the rear axle, but I had this same issue with the front wheel nuts on my Wraith. What finally fixed it was using a thin 4mm wheel nuts that comes on the front of a Blitz ESE, then using a regular nylock nut over it. This allows you to essentially jamb the nuts together and will take a lot more use/abuse before loosening. Typically a contributing factor with loosening wheel nuts is slop between the hex adapter and the drive pin. With the tire off, try to rotate the hex. There should be virtually no rotational slop between the pin and hex. Any slop will cause the hex to work back and forth every time you go from throttle to brake and eventually loosen the wheel nut. If your wheel nuts have loosened several times then odds are good the hex pin has opened up the slot in the aluminum hex and you'll need new hex's to remedy the issue. I wish someone would make steel 12mm hexs. For those of you who are overtightening the wheel nuts, how often are you breaking hex pins? I tried that on my Wraith and couldn't keep hex pins together, even after going to the stronger Gunner pins. All that torque on the wheel nut essentially side loads the hex pin and lessens the amount of rotational torque it will tolerate before breaking. |

Whatz all the hoopla about? 4mm regular nut w/nylock on top, problem solved. Plenty ove' room. |
