Default Yeti kit front differential issues

I assembled my front diff and the fit and finish of it was horrible. The cross pin was tight inside the gears and the bigger sun gear wouldn't spin free against the ring gear. I had to use a flat stone on it to remove all the high spots and the e clips were loose on the outputs. I also polished the cross pin and the I.D. of the spider gears. Anyone else having these problems?

Did you put the gasket between the gear and the diff housing?

I started my build last night. I didn't notice any problems with the gears and the diff functions pretty smooth now that it is assembled. I did find the e-clips to be a little loose as well. They snapped on real easy compared to other clips I have installed in the past on other vehicles. I don't foresee any problems coming from that though. You could try crimping the ends of the clip together with a pliers after it is installed for a little extra piece of mind.

I did use the gasket. I race so building diffs is nothing new to me. I squeezed the e clips and that tightened them up a little but still loose. While I was at work today I ordered a set of hpi gears.

I am having the same issues. Went through the instructions several times but cannot see, what I could have done wrong. Mine turns, but grinds really bad.... the bevel gear's teeth are curved, in the instructions they are straight. maybe that's why? Don't get it...

Double check the pinion bearing inside the case is seated all the way home.
Even pop it out & check there is no plastic flash under it.
It's not unheard of on Wraith housings (same as your Yeti rear) for that bearing to not seat properly & to hold the pinion too deep into the ring gear, making it tight.
Apply gradual pressure, don't beat on it, that will only break the housing.

I just started my build today and noticed the same problem. Never had any issues with my exo build. Tomorrow I will try reseating the bearing too see if it helps.

Did you find out what the problem is? I am building my kit and when I turn the shaft I can feel every tooth of the gears. It happens when I put the second part of the tranny case. It feels like is too tight.

The diff gears were the issue. I ended up contacting Scott and let him know of the issue. I used the hpi gear set from the nitro rs4. They worked great.

I just installed the gear on the opposite side as them manual shows and it is smooth as butter. I loaded the gears on the left instead of the right.

The problem is the internal gears and not the outer ones? When I turn the differential there is not grinding until I places in the plastic case and tight the screws. Then I get the grinding.

The issue I had was with the internal gears. Check that your bearings are seated all the way on. Check both the pinion and diff carrier bearings. Assemble like normal. After all the screws are in and it's in the chassis pan, then check you mesh. The case might be distorted by just using the two initial screws.

I talked to Hobbico and they are going to send me a new bulkhead. They said they get these problems once in a while.

Thanks for the light!
