Default Just blew inner rear pinion bearing and...

i just ran my yeti making everything was set for racing sunday and the rear inner pinion bearing went. it prolly took out the ring gear as well. to top it off the set screw to my mip drive shaft is stripped out lol.

i read some use an oillite bushing to replace the bearing in there.

i was looking forward to racing this weekend too.

If you go the thrust bearing just keep an eye on it. I changed out to one and whilst it is designed to cope with inward and outward pressure it developed some up and down slop after half a pack. This allowed the rear edge of the pinion gear to touch the housing.
I've since gone back to a standard bearing which I change out regularly with a new one.

Time for a Dlux housing with bigger bearing.

ShOrtBus I've been thinking about that route. Currently running VP OCP axle and considering changing over to the VP V2 for the bigger bearing.

Are those running the bigger inner bearings still having any bearing failures?

Bushings wear, it's their job. So they don't explode into the housing, but you'll have slop. Almost immediately. Dlux big bearing, SSD axle, VP V2 axle, or thrust bearing (inner only) are your options IMO.

Also make sure you are running Underdrive (43/13) Axial gears for best mesh. Yes you'll be a touch slower but have better mesh.

I went through a set of those on the wraith and gave up on bushings as even an option.

on the dlux page it reads

"Axial Wraith housings that have had the bearing area modified for a 5x13 bearing.

The bearings are set in the housing so a standard (new) ring and pinion will be just a hair too tight but perfect when broken in.

Comes with gear side bearing installed."

so no shimming required?

I didn't need to shim mine at all. Or in his Exo case for my Yeti's front. Perfect fit.

I've running the thrust bearing mod in my Currie for nearly a year with zero issues and I'm not easy on it.

well parts came in today. after cleaning out the axle housing the best fit with no slop was a new bearing. an oilite bushing of the same size was close but it had some slop. i didnt try the thrust washer or the modded housing. if this bearing goes (im gonna check it often) ill prolly go the modded housing way.

The D_Lux housing is the way to go....they are tough as nails.

One other thing you should consider is your punch control and break strength....I know, I know....just look into it and you may be impressed how it makes your car a little easier to race!

The RC industry went to bearings for a reason...you're limiting your performance and putting a band-aid over the actual problem.

But, if you're happy....have at it.

I just blew an inner pinion bearing in the centered currie. I installed an Avid thrust bearing, mesh seems to be perfect.

Part #f5-11m

Ring and pinion survived.
