Default underdrive vs overdrive gears

I was looking through the Yeti manual for information on the over/underdrive gears. I notice that it says for more speed you would use the underdrive gears. Is this true? I thought the overdrive gears would give a little more speed than the underdrive. Also, which gears are better?

Underdrive gears are known to have better mesh.

I thought it was a little strange that the underdrive gears would give a higher top speed.

I've been running overdrive gears pretty much since the beginning. No problems yet.

It's not about the gear ratio, it's about the durability of having a better gear mesh.

I hear people say the underdrive gear set has the better gear mesh, but wouldn't a pinion with more teeth on the ring gear have better mesh like the 36/14 overdrive gears?

This explains the better mesh.

If it is anything like 1:1, different ratios have different angles. You also end up with thicker and thinner pinions.

On top of all that, you have more or less torque multiplication.
