Steel City,

That's straight out of the box. There's a thin layer of clear on the wood (applied from factory) for fuel-proofing.

Stang,

Yeah, hardwood standoffs. Work great and strong as you'd want.

If you remember the shots of Roy crashing his Patty, he had used wood standoffs to mount his engine.

When he came down the left wingtip hit, then a hard hit to the nose. So hard, in fact that the fuse busted in two.

The standoffs...just fine.

The wood standoffs don't look as trick as aluminum, but they're staying. Unless I get the urge to machine some from aluminum...

Roy re-drilled his prop hub. It's straight now and is tapped for 8-32 hardware.

The crack in the carb adapter is fixed. It didn't suck air or anything, but Roy filled it and got rid of the locking washers that were used and substituted with flat washers.

I found out about Zenoah mufflers fitting when I went to Roy's house and we tried two of his Zenoah G45 mufflers...direct fit. I'll probably order a Slimline Pitts with smoke this week.

Yeah, the hardware kits are nice too. Robart hinges, nice heavy-duty control horns, etc.

It'll be in the air when I get it done.

There's not much left (parts-wise) that I need to complete it.

The exhaust and smoke pump is on the way.

I have the servos for it. It needed seven total. The servos that came with the DX7 will go into it (specs are right on the money) and control ailerons and elevators, but I picked up a JR 8711 for the pull-pull system on the rudder. 400oz should keep the rudder in check. Throttle and choke servos can be anything, I'll use some standard servos there.

Our cat clawed up the top of the left wing so I had to recover it. I've got the base color down, now it's time to add graphics. I also need to re-cover the left side of the fuse. I was watching a movie and using the heat gun to get wrinkles out of the covering...got to a good part of the movie, and forgot about the heat gun. Messed the covering up a bit near the nose. Most people wouldn't notice it, but I did. So...stripped that side of the fuse and need to recover it as well.

I figure it'll be 2-3 weeks before I take it up.

Finally drilled the prop tonight. Cleaned the workbenches so they were usable again.

I'd do more but I've got a headache so bad right now that it hurts to move my eyes.

The metal scraps will surely make that particular beer potable.

That's carbon fiber scraps. I didn't need to drill holes in the aluminum. The beer was leftovers from the first day of garage cleaning.

When we got him as a kitten he was $600 (Seal Point Persian with full papers) and was intended for the wife. He has attached himself to me. If I go somewhere in the house he's right there with me. I was in the floor working on this plane a few minutes ago, he curled up next to me while I was working. Now that I'm on the couch with the laptop he's laying on my feet. Coolest cat I've ever seen. I get upset with him when he does crap like that, but hey...he doesn't tear up anything else. This is the first time he's torn anything up - and we've had him for 8 years.

It was $60 for the covering to recover the wing. Much cheaper than the cat.

The prop was $63 shipped.
