I work for comcast and am a probably a little more versed with computers thatn most people. If you want a free trial NOD32 from www.filehippo.com has served me well for years! You have to do a search for it but set up correctly it will save you and your computer a lot of headaches. As for actually paying for something Bestbuy is selling Trend Internet Security Pro for $40 and the Geek Squad and several others have recommended it lately. I have it on my computers now and has already kept from getting several trojan horse viruses! So you can go either way but both are at the top of my list!

Um like what? I have every program that I need on my iMac. I have XP waiting to be installed but can't see a need for it. I haven't fired up my PC or laptop in months. Use the laptop for Castle Link only and used in the garage or outside.

The price I paid was and is worth it...what virus?

I have an old iMac myself but I have not fired it up in maybe a year now. very stable, runs very well, but I just use too many different pieces of industrial software, so i really have no need for it. I just havta bust on Mac owners a little since I understand both sides of that fence.

BTW it is possible to write a virus or trojan for the Mac platform, its just not a big enough target to do it and distribute it easily/successfully.

Macs/apples have no need for anti virus software just due to the fact of how secure they are. For all of the thousands of viruses/spyware that pcs get the mac has had 1 that I know of in the past 5 years. So why even bother spending money on getting an anti virus/spyware program for the Mac???? If you are willing to waste your money i've got some suggestions!! I'm not too proud to beg lol!

For Total System Protection I would run the following:

AVG Free 8.0 - http://free.avg.com/
CCleaner - http://www.ccleaner.com/
Spybot Search and Destroy - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
Spyware Blaster - http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

I was previously in the computer field for over 7 years and these tools did the job and kept mine, and my clients computers running like brand new. I would run ccleaner everyday after your done on the computer, it only takes a couple seconds to run. Update spybot and blaster once per week and do a scan. When you first install these do a full scan with them all. You should be golden with this setup.

Exclamation Forget Anti Virus Software! ! !

CONCLUSION

If you want to save yourself valuable time and stress on removing serious viruses malware and spyware ;

#1. Forget about paying or using any software downloads that are free without the advice source knowing exactly what the problem is! ! !

#2. Asking peoples advice that may be accurate and good at times (like the advice in this thread) may turn out to be pointless like in my case, since there are hundreds newer and nastier of the nasties being created out there as we speak.

#3.If you are very lucky you may remove the sucker with one kind of soft ware .
If you are not so lucky ,and you are new to this, save yourself countless hours and register in this FORUM and search for a few min or post a new thread (which is highly advised by members).
Cleaned my PC in minutes !!!

Or do proper back ups and of course then formatting and re-installing is often quicker and easier if the virus is that bad...
