Default WWAHAHAHAHAHA Rust Tacoma now with PICS

For those who do not know, Toyota has a recall out for rotting frames on their 96 through 2000 Tacos...we had one come into our shop monday and when my friend lifted it on the lift the frame basically snapped in half...it had already had some plates and bolts from where someone attempted a shady repair but once it got lifted on the lift it was all over...Ill have pictures up later, but here is a funny ass video of it courtesy my cell phone...dont mind the 1st 10 secs, didnt realize the lens cover was closed becase I couldnt see with the glare

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=INujD8kuc5s

O and my friend uploaded it to youtube UK for some reason, shouldnt matter though

So what exactly does the "special policy" (recall) outline a technician is supposed to do in a case where the truck can be repaired vs being scrapped? Do they order in a new frame?

I'm just on google and it looks like they (Toyota) would either buy it back, or give you some cash towards a new truck based off the book value of the truck (excellent condition book value no matter what) or some cash towards another Toyota vehicle.

I work a GM dealer myself and was curious..heh.

Toyota buys it back on a blue book value x 1.5 , we are NOT replacing frames as of yet... Or they can do like you said and discount a purchase of a new vehicle

Here are the pics

Spring perch went right through the frame on the drivers side

one of my delivery vehicles got yanked back, 99 2wd 331,564 on the odometer and maybe 4 inchs of visible paint and not a spot with out a dent.

it was almost as bad as that and if i didnt send it for an oil change it probably would have snapped like that.

Toyota gave me 8600.oo for it plus vouchers ............. i was hoping my other one was just as bad but it passed inspection :-(

Thanks for the photos. Never even knew about the recall until today. Something to remember in conversations with some customers next time.

We have done only one body off frame swap in our dealership in the all the years I have been here. Took two guys about a week to transfer everything over to the new frame. It was a non-writeoff repair crash job and the frame was twisted. After about I think almost $20,000 in parts / labour it was done. Pretty neat to see every clip, brake lines, fuel etc etc transferred and then the body dropped on top and hooked all back up again.

Enter the truck into the fall fair for a demo derby. That is, if it makes it past the first hit..lol.

I dont think this truck will survive one more 2000 rpm clutch drop like in the vid

BTW, this truck had an 186,000 on the odometer, runs like a champ...to bad the frame didnt make it...

I havent seen any of these yet that could be deemed repairable...issue is that they forgot to coat the frames in the anti-rusting agent, so even if you repair one area im sure the rest will go over time. I find most of them rot through right by the spring perches and shackles...so unless your looking to go truggy, these things are DONE.

One of my previous co-workers as of last week...We both got laid off...had his Taco recalled.
I think he got about $10,500 for it. Wasn't an AZ truck, he moved here from New Hamshire.

You couldn't give me One of those pieces of shit for free

The Japs haven't made a better car then the USA for a long time now.
Hopefully people will start realizing that fact.
Americans are putting our own auto business out of business by buying this junk.
Take some pride in your own countrys products, and the economy will rise again.
