| Flying Squirrel...
Last weekend I was cooking out on the grill when our cat came up with something in his mouth. He normally stays in the woods all day playing/hunting so we never know what he will bring home. In the past he has brought snakes, frogs, mice, moles, bats, and birds to name a few... Anyway this time I was a little shocked when he dropped a flying squirrel at the door. I noticed it was still alive so I brought it inside to so the family as my daughters had never seen one. It did'nt physically appear to be hurt but figured it would'nt make it through the night due to stress. To our surprise it did! The next day I called our family vet to give him the once over. Normally vets will not see "wild" animals of any kind but, I was in vet school with him and we were roomates our freshman year so he owes me big time (really good stories) He took some xrays and nothing was broken or punctured so all seemed well. From the size and some research we aged him at 8 to 10 weeks. Old enough to be weened from his mother and should be able to take care of himself. We planned on letting him back into the wild on Monday but he kept jumping/gliding from the tree back to one of us Crazy, the damned thing has bonded with us and now I guess he's a family pet? We are trying to keep him on his natural nocturnal scheldule so if he decides to go wild he'll be ready to go. I think we may have already screwed up since he no longer has a natural fear of humans but if I had'nt gotten him the cat would have eaten him for sure. Damned if you do damned if you don't... |

| Kids named him Stewart Little so we are calling him Stewie... It's fitting since he's a little grumpy when he wakes up (haha Stu) Our house is like a second chance home for animals... 2 of our dogs are rescues, the cats stray mother was hit by a car when they were about a week old and had to be bottle fed, and the tortoise was given to us by a wildlife officer and is missing an eye and a leg We have nursed a fox, 3 raccoons, and several deer back to life and returned to the wild as well Last edited by braceysdad; 01-23-2009 at 07:55 PM. |

That is a pretty cool little guy! Will you cage it or let it free roam? I bet it is crazy having a squirrel glide to you!

That's pretty cool critter to have living with you. I had a friend who had a pet grey squirrel. From what I remember it liked pop corn and jumping from his wardrobe to his bed. It was really cool but one day it just decided to leave. |

It's pretty funny. He loves getting under my wifes hair in the back and pulling it and then sleeping on her neck. I wonder how he knows she likes getting her hair pulled from behind?? I think he's making a move on my woman? | |

That's an awesome find! I agree with keeping it wild, but what are you gonna do since he likes you? Oh well! Cute little critter.
