Heather and I were talking last night how we missed living in the apartments, not having to worry about mowing, painting, siding, landscaping, etc. I wouldn't mind living in an apartment and having a shop.

Congrats though Scott, buying a house is exciting. Especially after waiting forever.

Exactly. If you can afford to keep up with the house then there is alot of pride in having your own morgage. My house needs a lot of work and I can't afford to keep up right now, that's why I'm bitter.

So you gonna make a rock course in the back yard Scott?

Yeah....but those little things that you currently call the apartment maintenance guy for....now you will either spend your free time doing or you'll pay someone to do it. Both houses that I have purchased, I had the seller pay for one year of home maintenance on...and it was nice. It eases you into the work/payments....

Well sell me Guido and then you will have some money

Congrats on the house purchase, we are going through the same process at the moment too. We have rented the house for 6 yrs and made it our own. The landlord approched us the other day and we both asked the same question lol.
Hope it all goes well for you

I went from owning my house in Calif. to an apartment in Missouri. Hated having "neighbors" above me, having the parking lot view, hated not having a shop or garage, hated not being able to hang a flag or paint a wall whatever or whenever I wanted, just plain hated it!

I was so happy when we bought our house last summer. But now I have to go mow the grass and it's hot and humid outside.

You can pick "better" apartments. I'm on the sunny side and upstairs, have a garage and basement and pay a tad above $500.

Small college town in Missouri, apartment buildings were pretty much all the same. When we moved to Colombia for Grad school, we rented a duplex.

Much better! Had a garage a real yard, and no neighbors overhead!

i was always loving the idea of renting. if it broke i made a phone call and went to bed. if i didn't want to mow a lawn i called.

for us, it meant going from a 3 bedroom duplex, where we had a neighbor... to a four bedroom colonial with 3 baths, and a garage all sitting on an acre of land for only 150 more dollars a month. we purchased the house from her parents too so it came loaded, complete with riding mower.

i'll take it.

WOW I wish! $500 will get you a closet in a bad neighborhood over here.

I have to say that I do miss owning a home. Hopefully things will turn around and we'll be able to purchase again in about 3 years.

Congrats Scott!

Usually it's all relative to location. I'm about 3 miles north of Theee Ohio State Campus, you're on the Island.
