I was refused service because I did not speak the clerks language.
Apparently you DO. Conversation AND knew you got denied.

Makes me wonder HTF you get hired in a customer service situation if you 'no habla".

Not spending tons of money printing documentation in languages other than english would help get the word across that the dominant language in the US is english. At least if I need any manuals or paperwork at the DMV the english version is always in stock.

Actually... No. The United States of America has no official language unlike other countries around the world. Simple history lesson taught us this in grade school.

I stand corrected, thank you.

I do not remember much from early school years. A hard bump on the head took care of much learned prior in my early 20's.

True, but has been hot debate throughout the ages, usually coincides with immagration. We want anybody worthy of contributing to society to be welcome, regardless of what language they speak, but they are supposed to assimilate to the culture, of which, the nationally used language is "american english". People that come here to get ahead and appreciate the great freedoms America has to offer realize that not only do you have to speak english, but know more of our history than most of us do.

I working daily in Miami, have run across similar experiences coming away with the same feelings. I understand a fair amount of spanish, more since I began working in Miami, but not out of necessity, my customers all speak to me in english, and at my request, will teach me spanish a little at a time. This is out of desire to learn what I didn't get enough of in high school. I like to always be learning, and respect others who do too. I think not learning the normal use(should be official) is laziness and ignorance, not contributing to society. I refuse to speak spanish at all in a business setting and will/have complained each time I run into it.

Geez your comebacks are lame. The Canadians want immigrants to boost the population from 30 million to 300 million. Don't you ever travel anywhere?

I'm grateful that I wasn't born looking like a Mexican. I'm glad that I forgot how to speak Spanish too.

My Grandfather did that, he joined the Army to get his citizenship. He later went to Korea and lost an arm.
(No, he didn't mooch off the system sorry to disappoint the stereotype. He later become a trauma surgeon and continued to work until the '80s. )

One day I was curious and asked it it was worth it. He said... no.
Today I finally understand why.

Here is how I can see that going.

He would go to enter the military, and they would deny him.

The media would find out about it and play him out to be a victim that just wanted to help the country.

A lawyer would pickup his case and file it with the court system.

Obama would step in and create a special regimen of just non english speaking soldiers, and the original guy would walk away with millions.

No sense in giving false threats, this country doesn't have balls enough to deport people like they should.

So "the administration" has deported over 400,000 illegals in the past year?

That's about 1,100 people a day. You'd think 1,100 illegals being deported per day FOR A YEAR would be on the news.

Oh, but wait...they haven't actually done it.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency expects to deport about 400,000 people this fiscal year,

In other words - it ain't gonna happen.

It wouldve been interesting to see the outcome of the sitaton if the OP could have pumped first then gone into pay.

I do realize not many places allow that anymore due to runoffs....just saying.

Actually there are many immigrants in the US military. Joining the US military is a streamlined way of getting US citizenship, knocking years off of the normal process.

I understand that, and think it's a great way to earn their way into this country.

I was talking about someone that didn't speak a lick of english though.
