I remember years ago when I was taking a test I noticed a bunch of high school kids taking tests. I knew for a fact a bunch of them had never worked in a shop and I would have bet a bunch of them passed.

I agree "hands on" is the only true way to tell if somebody is qualified.

I agree I like to keep things in pairs but its not always possable.
Replace one worn rotor, drive a few thousand miles, have to go back to have the OTHER rotor replaced.

Two times to the shop when everything could have been taken care of in one trip.

Seriously, if you're going to take a rotor off and put it back on, leave that bitch off and put a new rotor on that side. Especially if a new rotor is $38 for the customer.

this is why honest people dont run buisness'. from their perspective it looks like this..

tech: "rotor on replaced side is 1/2 below min thickness, boss what do we do?"

bossman : "damn thats cutting it close but i guess we should get a new one since the veins are starting to show. mark it up 10 percent and tel them its eurpean steel. whats the other side look like?"

tech: "Its showing 1/16th of an inch below min on an aftermarket rotor, from the last time we did these brakes."

bossman: " well hell kid, throw it on the brake lathe! lets make some money the machine was free after we decalred bankrupsy and opened again using all our old equipment, so any money we make on that is good free money! so charge that gal in their 38$ for a new european rotor and tell her we saved her 5$ bucks on the other side by putting in the "extra work"! and charge her 32 bucks for the lathe work, we usually charge 20 but we wouldnt want to be a liar now would we little johnny?"

tech: "Ok, boss and what about this drive shaft should we put it in phase or out of phase i forgot to mark it and i dont remember if it applys to this style driveshaft setup?"

bossman: " wtf u say boy!? im not payin you to think! wanting to run all sorts of electricity through it to charge it n shit... put it in phase !!!what a dumbass!!" .... "i should PHASE that boy right out of a job!"

welcome to reality!!! population everyone!!!

Thats one thing I do like about factory standards (at least with GM) is you must be trained for whatever area you work in and soon if you are not you won't be getting paid any warrantee for the work you complete.
But even with the ASE Certification you at least know how to take an alternator apart correctly and know that there's no clutches in it.

Actually...

http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-...ernator+clutch

There ARE clutches in some alternator pulleys.

Crazy. I didn't know. My crap is too simple for that fancy-schmancy stuff.

Wow, didn't know that either lol. All I need is a simple alternator that works and then I'm happy.

So if it's still out of balance and horrible, you gotta take it apart for the third time now?

That was the reason I asked for a partial refund - so I can take to a place that specializes in driveshafts and knows WTF they're doing. I knew more about WTF was going on than his shop monkeys.

So essentially I paid him $60 to install a carrier bearing, three U-joints, fawk up the phase relationship in my driveshaft, waste two days of my time, and force me to drive like I belong in a retirement community in Florida.

Tomorrow morning it's going to the driveshaft specialists that I found today. Had been told by EVERYONE that there wasn't an actual driveshaft shop here in town.

Spent a few minutes on Google and found one.
