| Kids just get it...
My 8 year old daughter and I were dropping off some gifts at the families in need Christmas drop off. She innocently asked "daddy, why are these families in need" ? I answered "for different reasons such as the parents may have lost their jobs"... She was silent for a few minutes and then said "daddy, if they lost theirs why can't you just give them one of yours". How can you compete with that logic. Our family does everything we can to help others but we do even more to help ourselves. I know some circumstances cannot be helped but it seems in our area that alot of people consider walking to the mailbox to get their government check as a job... I know this is the season to give but try and help yourself before you just hold a hand out... Last edited by braceysdad; 12-15-2011 at 06:40 PM. |

My daughter amazes me with stuff like that. The logic they use can go from blatant truth to "where did that come from?" in an instant. I was at the shop all day today. Kids got out of school and Mina brought them to the shop before heading to a pot luck/dinner being put on by the unit for the military families. They were giving away prizes throughout the function. Megan told me after I got home that she and Jeff really wanted to win one of the prizes. "Dad, one of them was four days off. We really wanted to win that for mom. And one of the other prizes was a $15 iTunes gift card. I wanted to win that for (girl next door) but we didn't win anything." Out of the blue this weekend Megan asked that, if she did chores around the house, if she could get an allowance. Mina told her "Sure." So Megan told her she'd never have to do dishes again - or take out the trash. Her reason for wanting an allowance? She recently made a "treasure chest" for her grandmother (teacher) so she could put various items in to give to the kids. She wanted the allowance so she could buy items to put in the treasure chest. "I'm going to get something for Granpa too." That girl is always looking out for others. Pretty cool. This is the same girl that wears a skull cap when all the other girls have bows and ribbons in their hair. Interesting when she's wearing a short(ish) skirt and a skull cap at the bus stop. |

| Re: Kids just get it... And she has been doing that for a long time! I remember when she would be hanging out here at the shop. All she would do is make things for us or something for mom and dad. Her and Jeff are great kids! BD- That is awesome daddy-0! My daughter has completely changed my life Everyone could learn a few things by just listening to kids sometimes. The pure thoughts that they have should be a lesson to us all...... And good for you for being a "real dad" and teaching your kids life lessons like that. It will only make them great in the long run. Hopefully better than us! |

We tried to serve Thanksgiving lunch at the local shelter as a family. We ended up having to send the kids home because of all the "MFer" this and "MFer" that... My oldest wanted to know why they were saying muffler and ssshi main after ever other word. I told her she had to call uncle DJ Colquitt for that one...
